ok looking to do a small upgrade for my 88 si.I don't want to get real crazy with this swap just want a newer stronger motor! is there a direct swap for my car so i don't have to cut harnesses and search for special part's? and would it be worth it in the long run?

You have several options, almost all of them require some sort of engine wiring or conversion. It really depends on what you want to spend or how skilled you are in the garage. For direct bolt ins (easiest) you would be looking for a ZC, D16Z6 or D16Y8. These would all be a budget minded upgrade that makes better power than what you have now. If you had more to spend you could do a B16, B18C/A as well to give you a better starting point for upgrades down the road. These are a bit more expensive because you have to get mounts and a complete swap, not just the engine. (axles, tranny, ECU, etc.)

I've been pretty happy with my DOHC ZC, the only real rewiring needed is for the cam position sensor. That was 2 wires. Everything else was pretty much plug and play. You have a few different options for the ECU, most preferring the older Integra ECU's (tobi could probably let you know best on that), and you can use your Si transmission which has shorter gearing than the ZC trans but, the ZC trans has equal length shafts which, from what I'm told helps to eliminate torque steer. The ZC is really a budget project and pretty easy to install. Though the after market for these motors is fairly slim.

This link will tell you pretty much anything you need to know about the ZC's and what is entailed with the swap.

Go with a d16y8 or z6, p28 ecu, obd0 to obd1 jumper harness. easy as Cake!

150$ jumper harness, 75-100$ ecu, 250-400$ for the motor, depending on condition.

you can just do a head swap too, y8 or z6, you can get those 100-150$, Don't know the condition of your Current a6 motor though...

Hmm, weird. I just realized I have all that in stock. Well, I guess PooRide is getting a makeover this summer.

i had several ef's with dohc ZC engines. very good, strong engines...pull about the same as b16. but way cheaper. just drop in the engine, pull the 2 green wires out of your dizzy plug and put them over to the sensor on the exhaust cam and u r dun.
my ex had a dohc ZC in her hf crx with 6psi of boost on a t3 and ran 13.9 on nitto drag radials @101 mph with a 2.1 60ft.
great little street car.
highly recommend this set up! :)

yeah i heard zc's are great on boost...and as far as pulling on a b16 sounds about right...b16's are weak kinda pointless if u ask me unless u plan on building one up..i pulled on a b16 crx on a downshift wit my d16z6 hatch...

haha yeah, i believe it.

i had a 88 si about 8 years ago that Brent at pfi had put together for his wife...bone stock si. but with sum cam in it. and my friend had just had Trenz do a b16swap in his 88 si with type r cams, and we ran door to door, it was great! haha

the shitty thing is back in like 98/99 i used to get full zc swaps(eng, tran, ecu, axles) from soko for 550 shipped, now its like 550 PLUS shipping just for long block...gheyness...but still a cheap swap, not to mention an easy swap...i am completly sure that, im going go dohc zc in my ef hatch soon.

hey sorry took so long to get back on the block needs to be machined new pistons even though have the stock ones and acid dipped it sat out side forever i picked it up with plans of doing something with it but i cant even find the one bolt i need to get my other zc finished so its just taking up space.

I had a D16Y8 in my on EJ8, it pulled pretty hard and my car was pretty heavy so in a CRX, it should be an easy swap.

also, depending on the damage to your engine if any, just get a Y8 head and Intake manifold. AKA: Mini-me.

Not much reason to get an entire engine if your D16 block is intact, just swap heads at get the better breathing manifold, oh, and change to the right ECU and OBD from D16Y8. should be OBDII

if u want 2 get some more power jus thro in a z6 swap put your a6 pistons in their and ul b happy vtec+ compression ul like it i tried it 4 a lil n wasnt bad plus really cheap good luck

sirtef9
03-03-2008, 08:26 AM
What compression does that bring you? a6 in the z6 block?

i got a b18a1 block and head needs some parts heard its a easy swap in to crx

JDMef9
03-03-2008, 09:48 PM
if u wanna get crazy, get a z6 block, y8 head, use d17 crank, and machine down sum zc pistons. u will have to do a little grinding inside the block for the rods to clear, but damn its a fun little engine.

we put one of these together in a buddy's girls car.
a 92 cx. everything else was stock with an ex trans.
the car went 14.7 @ 89mph in vegas (2000 feet)

i havent dun the math, but we assume the compression to be around the 12:1ish area
if sumone could do the math, that would be cool
i dont really care, but its still a super fun little engine! :)

i just got my zc put together getting ready to drop it in went with the dish pistons instead of the domes so i can boost more block gaurded and port and polished and still didnt drain my wallet to bad. best bang for the buck i think.
