Almost guys, just waiting on insurance. Once that is in place the doors will be open.

Here's some info on my powder coating capabilites.
It must be metal
It must fit in my oven 4x3x3ft.
if it has plastic or rubber in or on it , I will have to remove the plastic/rubber.

for media blasting.
The cabinet is about 2x2x3ft, but items have to be small enough to not only fit in the cabinet, but allow me to move the piece around.

I am also announcing a contest in another thread (M@ you might want to read it). Anyhow guys please hang tight a little longer, I'm almost ready to open the doors.

How are you getting the coating to stick to the part before you bake it? In most powdercoating operations I was under the impression that they put a charge on the part and then dusted it with a negative charge powder which caused the nice/even coat which was then baked.

Some of the samples Mark did looked like maybe the coating was applied with a sprayer somehow? Educate us!

Low pressure air forces powder through the gun. The gun gives the powder a positive charge, and its sprayed on a grounded part. Then the part is baked.

Got my valve cover back, looks great! The pictures don't do it justice, came out really smooth and shiny, very nice!

I'll be bringing my intercooler piping your way for the same coating once I get it. And of course my turbo pieces for the ceramic coating.

I should be able to hammer those out in a day.

2Gen Ben, what is the overall length of the frame?

well, if i take the forks off it it would probably be around 3 1/2 foot long maybe 3 ft tall, with a 1 1/2 inch down tube. ill measure for sure tomorrow.

i would also like the wheels coated black.

Ben, I think it should fit in the oven. Any chance you could bring it by and see if it does for sure?

How much would it cost to sand blast and powder coat four 14" wheels in purple. I'm looking for purple that looks like ZEX nos kit (the way their bottles look)

Hey Josh,
I saw that A1 charges 90/hour to strip aftermarket rims. Any idea on how long it would take for them to strip a set of 17's. Also what particle size do you use when powder coating rims? I know it depends on the finish. I want the normal smooth finish.

thanks

Martian
03-27-2008, 05:42 PM
Particle size varries from color to color. I'm looking into another shop for stripping aftermarket wheels. A-1 is expensive and spent 8 hours on the last wheels I took them.

Check out Blast-tech (maybe tek?) in Englewood, should be very competetively priced.

Hey josh, my dad has some stuff for his harley he needs done. There are three pieces sizes are 6x18, 6x6, and 6x10. two of them are chrome and one is aluminum. So there isnt a whole lot of prep time on it. He wants to do them the high gloss black. Do you think I could get a rough estimate that I could give him?
Thanks

Martian

Without seeing what we're talking about I'd say roughly 80$

lagunabluek

I am not currently skilled enough to do 2 tone PC's and have them look good. My 1 color price is 50$+/- on those though.
