Team Summit Racer John Lingenfelter is in our thoughts and prayers.
10/29: During the NHRA Summit Sport Compact World Finals in Pomona, CA, on Sunday, October 27, Team Summit racer John Lingenfelter suffered a major accident. John is in the thoughts and prayers of many people, and Summit Racing wishes him a safe and fast recovery.
“John is part of our family and his accident is deeply saddening.” Skooter Peaco, Motorsports Manager, said. “We would like to thank John’s fellow racers, who have shown tremendous support for him, his wife Cindy, and his entire family. We would also like to express our gratitude to the paramedics and track staff who responded to John's needs on site. They made the best of a very bad situation and fortunately were able to get John the quick medical attention he needed."
John lost control of his Pro class Chevy Cavalier at mid-track and took a hard right into the wall. He suffered injuries to his head, neck, and lung and was taken to a nearby hospital.
Currently, John is in critical condition. The doctors have stabilized him and will perform surgery on his broken vertebrae. John has shown some signs of improvement--his blood pressure is getting back to normal, his collapsed lung is recovering, and he has shown some signs of movement in his fingers and toes.
Updates will be given as soon as information is received--please do not contact the hospital or John's engine shop.

10/30: John underwent surgery to repair his neck on Tuesday, and his condition is improving. Doctors fused John's vertebrae, which was broken at the C-7 level. While the surgery was expected to last four hours, it only took two and a half hours and the doctors are pleased with the results.
John is now moving all of his limbs and his breathing and heart rate are back to normal. He is still in the recovery process, and his condition has been changed from critical to stable.
