With under 200 WHP in this weather? Just curious. That's with snow tires on too. Is it me or do all FWD cars around 180 WHP do this?

Even AWD? Even if you drop the clutch at redline in AWD?

I have had all 4 tires chirp on dry road dropping at 4500. I can get all 4 to actually spin on dirt/gravel with just slipping the clutch even at like 5000. I am pretty sure I can get all 4 to spin pretty well on ice :p

well i was doing it in 4th earlier, didn't get a chance to try 5th, but my tires get NO traction, i had to back up and get a running start at the drivethru at goodtimes :(

I had all 4 loose in reverse today...Its was pretty fun. I cant wait till the snow gets thicker so i can get some videos of AWD donuts.

I spun last night on flat pavement, just easing into the throttle...although last night was really bad here in thornton...snow sucks.

On street tires I can always chirp 4th on dry pavement. Chirped 5th a couple times. 6th? Not a chance. :D In the snow.....it just stays home. :)

hmm, okay, I guess I just never tried it before, and now that I have boost and some down low torque increases, I find it a lot easier to spin them. hence why I asked the question.

I used to scratch 1-4th in my SI at the drag strip. Just a crazy stiff pressure plate, and street tires. If you dump the clutch at pretty much any rpm in my GTI it just stands still. I thought my SI had some low end torque. This car has almost 100 ft/lbs more and is kinda bitchie off the line.

Just flooring it in 2nd and all 4 spin. Im sure after i turn the boost up from .5 bar to 1 bar itll do it in 3rd too..Its fun sliding with all 4 spinning.

I find that SOO hard to believe, but you're driving it, not me. There must be something preventing it from taking off at a redline dump, like some ECU prevention scheme or something? Maybe that gay lookin dude at the VW dealership knows, oh yeah, troy.

How is that hard to believe. Chipped the car has 250 or so ft/lbs of torque at the wheels. You can drop it from 2000 and smoke the tires all the way to redline easy. Hell ask Isaiah, he was folling me tonight :D

Is it because they spin like crazy and it's hard to get traction, or is it something else, that it just doesn't like dumped clutches?? The post of yours I was referring to sounds like the latter.

wow, whats with the hostility?? go drive a chipped 1.8t and you will see. with 240 ft-lbs to the front wheels is hard to get traction in first at all, even if you feather it. especially with the stock tires. I was even spinning quite a bit when I barrowed my friends 24" slicks and that was still feathering the clutch some.

Both ways it's saying the same thing. It doesn't like dumped clutches because it has a lot of torque whicxh means it spins without gaining traction. Hell my SI had traction problems too and it only had 150 ft/lbs of torque at the most....

I wasn't trying to be hostile. From Brian's first comment, it sounded like his car just stands still if a redline clutch dump is performed. Technically, NO car should stand still... even though the tires are spinning, they are getting bits and pieces of traction propelling the car forward inch by inch slowly. It didn't sound like VWs just weren't doing this, like the engine was going back down to say 1000 RPM before the tires were moving. I was just trying to get clarification. What if you guys tried 2nd gear launches at a more respectable 3 or 4K RPM dump?

I can't even break my tires loose unless I spray off the line...I guess that is the penalty for AWD.

Ahh I got what you are saying. Of course the car moves forward a bit. My comment was a slight exageration, but I figured you would catch that. What I was saying is that dumping the clutch at almost any rpm in these cars lights the tires up. That is of course with traction control off.

At this point my stock clutch would rather slip than grab when I shift into 4th from redlining 3rd:(
Clutchmasters stage 4 is on it's way:):)
