Help with faxing something

Ok, my old roommate needs me to fax him some shit but his fax number has an extension. Has anyone ever done it and if so, can you tell me how to do it please?!?!?

Does your fax machine have a handset? I think if it does, or a speaker, you can dial the number, it'll pick up like normal, then you dial in the extension at which point the fax line picks up and grabs the job. I might be wrong, but I THINK that's how you do it.
