Allright, my brothers friend has a 96 Pontiac Sunfire. He says that he can start it up for like a minute or so and then it starts to shake and just dies. I guess they put in a gallon of gas to see if that was the problem but it wasnt. He had it started up, and he started to turn it around in the street and it died again. I realize this is a pontiac and this is a import board but maybe someone here could help me out?
Thanks
Bryan

Sounds like the timing chain/belt may have slipped.
Or the fuel pump could be going out intermittantly. Maybe it runs fine till it heats up and then quits. My van acted that way a couple of times before it finally quit altogether.

Is there anyway to physically check it out and see if i can see what's wrong like the timing belt or the fuel pump?
Thanks

Get a volt meter and check you fuses and ignition. If the car is still running, the problem may just be a bad cap and rotor. If it's not that, I would check you fuel system.

Did he do anything different to make it do that, like a mod or something, or maybe he just didn't take care of it. Being such a new car, I wouldn't say that he blew a piston or bent a valve, but it definitely is an option.

try checking the alternator. I had an old 85 civic that had the same issues, & that's what it was

Man, everyone has the worst case scenario opinion. It doesnt have a cap and rotor so it cant be that. Im leaning towards Pat's suggestion on this one,. possible fuel pump and or clogged filter.
There are ways to have it checked out, I can refer you to a chevy tech who will work on the side if you like.

What I will do is give you his number to give to the owner of the car and they can work it out. That way there are no third party screw ups.

sounds good, thanks for your help.
There is a law in Colorado that says that you can take anything back within three days of purchasing it; yes, even cars. If this was a private seller, call them up and tell them that if they don't help you out, you'll sue his ass. If it was a dealership, give them a call. In that short of notice, they may fix it for free.

Yea, he was thinkin about takin it to the dealership but he really doesnt have the money to pay them to fix it. I think he got it on Monday night so the 3 days is up. Im gonna try physically checkin it out today and if i cant find anything then i guess it's gotta go to the dealership.
