For those out there who have 1G AWD DSMs.
For some reason I am having trouble shifting into 2nd and 4th. The gears DON'T grind as if the syncros were bad. It just doesn't shift or engage into gear. This seems to happen more at high RPM's and hard launches.
This seems to have started after I put in an ACT 2600 clutch and added BG-Syncor shift fluid. Any input would help:eek:

My best advise is to go to RMDSM.org. or go to the forum at forum.rmdsm.org.
Theres a few guys there that know about everything there is to know about dsms.

I'm assuming your tranny is stock. Mine wasn't that great from the factory but I had a friend have a "ooops" while shifting and broke 3rd gear in mine. I had it rebuilt by ACS Automotive and my tranny has shifted great since. There is a bit of "crunchiness" going from 1st to 2nd but the 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th are very smooth especially for a DSM. I also have been using Redline MTL in the tranny and the other gearboxes also have Redline synthetic in them. I only had one miss-shift all year that cost me a race.

Problems in 2nd/4th/reverse are usually a shifter or shifter cable problem.
Make sure the cable mount on the transmission is tight.
Make sure the cable itself is not about to "break".
If those check out, examine the shifter and cable ends for excess wear. Also examine the bushings used to mount the shifter to the chassis.

Probably one of the first things im gonna do is get a ACT clutch and check out the tranny while im at it, the cables, hoses, etc and make sure it's all in good condition before i put it out on the road (assuming i get one) :)

IM HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM ALSO AFTER I PUT MY ACT 2600 CLUTCH IN BUT IM GETTING I LOT OF PEOPLE TELLING ME TO CHANGE MY TRANNY OIL TO GM SYNCROMESH AND THAT WILL LET MY GEARS GO IN A LOT SMOOTHER AND A LOT LESS GRINDING ALSO, IM GOING TO THAT THIS WEEKEND AND I LET YOU KNOW HOW EVERYTHING GOES

TURN OFF THE CAPS,please.
Either switch to synchromesh or go with Redline MTL which is what I'm using and it works great.

Ive heard from some people that the tranny will heat up after a hard launch with a 2600 or higher clutch and not allow you to get into 2nd. Ive seen a vid of a guy in florida racing a cobra have to play "catch up" because he couldnt get it into 2nd at redline. Other than that i have no idea. See if you can get ahold of deadly_dsm on here, he knows DSMs pretty damn well :)

How many miles do you have on the tranny, maybe the forks are going out, I have already blown the shit out of my tranny and mine is a 96. I do know that the stock tranny held up pretty well, we did 6 straight drags on it before it started to grind, and that was launching at 6000+ rpms
