pretty sure thats why the police said it was not a high priority. if you say they have they keys then they probably figure your crazy and gave them to them or you were trying to get the insurance money.....
I imagine that the vehicle was left running to warm up. People don't steal cars because they want the car, there are two reasons why someone steals a car.
1) For parts.
2) They need transportation.

There is the simple thrill/adrenaline/sport of it too.

yeah she left it to warm up, i have to get her a rem. start now geez.......yeah my best guess is they wanted that thrill------>tho they took all her cd's, 2 sunglasses, and a watch...I still cant believe its in good shape....!
It'd be cheaper to just cut a second set of keys, and lock the vehicle while you're not in it. Or you could not let it warm up at all, as it is illegal in several counties in this state.
*I let my car warm up on the really cold mornings as well, only because I have to put my daughter in it though.*

Damn good to hear! The keys in my 240 used to ONLY come out once it was passed the steering lock. but for some reason other keys and objects wouldnt work(I tried steeling it from myslef for piece of mind).
I could start it and take the keys out and still lock the door. Problem was that I would often drive around with no keys and wouldnt notice until I had to shut off the car and make the steering wheel lock again.
I am going to do like STU though and just carry two sets of keys, one removable and one not. I dont like having the baby in the cold car either.

is it really illegal??? i didnt know that
It is in Denver county. You could also be denied coverage by your insurance company. I personally wouldn't deny a claim like that, not unless my manager made me, but it could happen.

does it matter, the car was stolen regardess it was just easier to steal it this way.....
Keys???

Reading the entire thread - ouch. I bet she never let's her car "warm up" again. Nor should anyone else. Unless you are in the drivers seat with a weapon.
Glad to hear the car was recovered!

I let my trucks warm up on the cold mornings, because I care about my engine. I have seat warmers for me and the kids :) I have seen people lose thier vehicle in front of a 7-11, in front of a King Soopers, and once we saw a car get jacked from a driveway in Denver from inside a friend of mine's house. They sat and waited that last time behind the victims van parked next to the car, and jumped in and took off as soon as the front door to the house closed. Some people are crazy! I am glad that I live in a nice enough neighborhood that we really don't have to worry about that so much. The Rover gets warmed up with the garage door partially open though, just to be safe. I may live in a nice place now, but I lived in shitty places all my life. Ever seen Newark New Jersey?
I warm up my car from time to time as well, but with me in the drivers seat.

if you are talking about engine wear, how much warming up is needed? it is pointless to let the car warm up for more than 2-3 minutes to protect the engine.
if you need to warm up the car enough for heat to be coming through the vents, get some damn gloves and a jacket. or move out of CO.

I only do that when it is hella cold outside, because I can hear that the oil is not getting to the top end. The Rover I warm up for about 90 seconds as per the instructions in the owners manual. It tells you to wait until the idle dies down which takes about that long, but the S-10 ticks a bit in the cold mornings. I just let it warm up until the oil gets up to the lifters and stops it, maybe 5 minutes but no more than 10 minutes. The cold affecting me is not an issue though, I'm pretty used to it.

Well Im pretty sure if you get caught steeling a car, it is considered joyriding if you have the keys. Not sure if that has anything to do with it. I have also heard that insurance can deny you if you left the keys in it.
