View Full Version : How ghetto are you?

I consider myself to be somewhat ghetto.

Ever since the movie theaters have those self check in machine I had always brought children tickets.

Sometimes when the employees arnt watching, I have my friend/family member/girl run sneak out of the food line with popcorn. Honestly, there's no way that shit is worth $5.

Back when the self check out machines at the grocery store were truly self check out, when I brought dough nuts I always paid for 1, even though I actually have 12.

My job holiday dinner had a shitfuck amount of leftovers, so I boxed it all up and brought it to my family pot luck.

I always grab 'free samples' from the gummy bear bins.

I'm a slave to free food at college, I spend 30 minutes filling out a survey for a slice of pizza.

Fabreeze is a good enough to wash my clothes a lot of the time.

Harbor Freight may not be Snap-On, but fuck I can buy a entire collection worth of tools for the same amount of money I would have spend on a wrench set from Snap-On (though honestly, whenever I can afford it I do always buy good name brand tools); though Snap-On is selling out and not doing the life time warranty anymore.

Though honestly I always go out of my way to make sure my friends and family are well off, even if it is at a sacrifice to my comfort.

i'll buy cheap tools, IMO for a home garage craftsman or husky is just as good as a snap on set.

Everything else, though, not so much. With the gummy bears and shit, that's expected, everyone does that. Stealing doughnuts and popcorn is quite possibly now in the top 10 most ghetto things i've ever heard though, haha, could you imagine going to court and explaining to the judge you decided to pull a hit and run on a concession stand in the movie theatre for a bag of popcorn? FFS it's $5.....Also, isn't fabreeze more expensive than just washing your clothes? Seriously though, thats kinda gross =X....next people will suggest shampooing with hand soap out of the mall bathrooms as a money saving tip =/

Well all the self check lines are regulated now. It asks you to show your dough nuts to the clerk. As for the popcorn.....hey if your have a guaranteed chance at free popcorn, then I would you all take the same opportunity. Unfortunately a lot of these theaters make you pay before you get the food now, wtf?!

I'm doing them a very good favor. How else will they learn the limitations of their systems, if people dont take the time and risk to exploit them?

I have a dream! That one day we will all can go about our lives without having to do petty crimes! That the systems set is place is efficient enough that you dont have to show them the error of their ways.

Until then, I just have to continue putting my life at risk to show them just were they need to tighten up. Without people like me, we all be living in caves with the doors and windows wide open! With people walking in and out, taking whatever they need! NO! We cant have that! I have to do my civil services!

Exactly.

Our generation seems to have a problem understanding basic economics (micro & macro). When you go to purchase something, there are 2 basic situations.

1) The price is below or at your threshold of what you would be willing to pay, and you find the value worth the cost. i.e. It's something you want, and are willing to pay for, and can pay for.

2) The price is above the threshold of what you are willing to pay for, and thus, the cost is more than the value.

The second case has two possible options. Either the cost is something they can afford, but are just unwilling to do so, or the cost is something they can't afford.

If they can afford it, but think the cost is too high, then don't buy it. That's the way a rational person acts. If you feel the popcorn is not worth $5, then don't get the popcorn. It's simple. It's really not a big deal. If the cost isn't worth it to you, then don't buy it. That's how the market is supposed to work.

A free market economy is a great thing. The problem is, it relies on people making rational decisions. There simply are too many people around today who can't make rational decisions. Steeling or taking advantage of the situation isn't doing someone a "favor." It's you making an irrational decision simply because you want something but don't want to pay for it. So rather than accepting that fact, and making the rational choice. You make an irrational one because it's what you think is 'fair' based on some wacky concept of obligation.

On the other side, if they can't afford it, then they shouldn't get it. It doesn't matter how much value it has to you, if the cost isn't something you can afford, then you can't buy it. This is a big problem with the way our Government is run. Our politicians separate their policies from their budget. All they look at is should we do this (based on politics, party affiliations, what they think voters want, etc). If the answer is 'yes' then they do it. That is the only step.

They fail to look at the question of "can we afford this?" They just assume the money will come from somewhere, and then spend it. That is why we are in such debt.

I'm not sure where the change happened. I know most our grandparents really understand that concept, if you can't afford it, you don't buy it. I also know that our generation seems completely lost on that concept. They have no concept of opportunity cost and basic economics. They just understand that a credit card will let them get what they want right now.

Other then my car, I'm debt free.

I'm debt free because I'm doing the system a favor. Since we are all part of the system, I'm even doing you a favor.

Dont argue with my flawless logic now.

I'm a little ghetto but it doesn't involve breaking laws. I shop at Big Lots periodically or the dollar store and feel a litlte ghetto in those places but some things are sure damn cheap even compared to Wally World, the King Ghetto store.

I picked up 100 sheets of photo paper (5 packs of 20) for $15 vs the same 100 (and same brand) for $40 at Best Buy.

hey where do you live? When do you work? If I have a guaranteed chance at a free computer or whatever electronics you have at your house, why not?

What car do you drive, and what hours is it unattended? If I have a guaranteed chance at free mods why not?

If I rob your house, or steal your car, or knock you in the back of the head with a steel pipe and jack you, i'm simply showing you that your house is not secure enough, your car is not secure enough, and your tolerance of steel pipes to the back of the head is too low; in no way shape or form should I be held accountable. In fact, I would deserve a "beats people over the back of the head with steel pipes" medal.

If you don't think the doughnuts are worth the price, don't buy them. If you don't think the popcorn is, don't buy them, or hell at least bring your own shit in, which is less ghetto than outright jacking a concession stand.

Which is why we have laws set in place to prevent such horrible things. If people didnt steal in the first place, they wouldnt have the law set in place! What is the ten commandments again?

Thou shall not knock people in the back of the head with a steal pipe, jack thou neighors, because thou neighbors house isnt secure enough?

I think that's how it went.

But I dont see a sign saying 'Dont steal the popcorn', hell I can go in the theater, and take all the butter, cheese flavoring, and salt I want. I dont see why I cant do the same with the popcorn. Besides I pay for the drinks, I'm not being greedy, I'm just being making things even stevens by being a good patron and doing a civil service.

Besides bringing your own food is worst then paying the correct price of the popcorn. When I bring my own food, I'm denying them my money outright. If I make things even stevens and pay the rightful price of the items I'm helping out the buisness, which in turns help them help the public by showing movies, which in turns provides jobs for all the illegal immigrants.

If I brought in my own food, they wouldnt make money. If they wouldnt make money, they cant show you the movie. If they cant show you the movie, all those illegal immigrants would be taking your jobs.

So who's doing who a favor? The person who brings in his own food and not contribute to the operation of the theater, which in turns shuts down the theater making all those people go out and jack your jobs. Or, the person who goes in, pay the rightful price, help the theater figure out were to they need to tighten up lose prevention, which in turn provides more jobs, thus making society a better place to live?

I don't imagine you have a sign on the back of your head that says "don't hit me with a steel pipe here" nor a sign on your car that says "don't steal me" (though it would be pretty funny to see one)

Bringing in your own food more detrimental than paying full price, absolutely. However, that's nothing compared to stealing. When you bring in your own you're creating a zero profit zero loss situation. When you pull a dine and dash on the concession counter, you've created a loss situation. Not only is the theater out popcorn, the bag, but you've also stolen time from the lives of people behind you in line that had to wait just that much longer in line because they had to wait for you, and you have most likely caused severe subconscious mental trauma to the poor girl behind the concessions stand.

You're a smart guy, you probably know all of this already though. What you don't know is:

-One of the people in line behind you last week was going to see a clip in the previews that would lead to an epiphany, driving him to become the world's greatest diplomat and end all world wars forever, as well as solving our world's energy crisis in his spare time. The chick behind him was also going to be inspired by a part of the clip seconds later, leading her to develop a cure for aids and radical new farming techniques that would end world hunger forever.

But they didn't see the clip, because you stood in line to steal popcorn. Now, he's going to be a trashman, and she a stripper.

-You have caused severe subconscious mental trauma in the concessions stand girl, which later in life will lead to massive drug use and sexual exploitation. She will die an early death and due to being sexually exploited constantly, have several abortions, all because of the crippling mental anguish you've caused on her impressionable developing young mind.

What does this mean?

Don't steal popcorn kids, it's the cause of war, AIDS, world hunger, and steals peoples lives away. It even kills young women and children, sometimes before they're even born!

This message has been edited by the MPAA/RIAA.

Seriously though, stealing popcorn is more detrimental to bringing your own. Bring your own, buy a soda, win/win

Well it all comes down to one phrase.

"You have to live broke, to make money"

I save my ass off, and am pretty tight with my money and really try to spend as little as possible(I do sneak movie theater food). The reason why? Is so I can spend that shit on my cars, and other things when I actually need them. As opposed to fulfilling some imediated impulse to buy something that I don't really need, or something that I will never use.

And to answer the post question. Yes I am ghetto. My house is probably the most Ghetto on the block. Its also very cheap for me, and has a nice big garage.

Bringing your own food to the theatre FTW. Everyone is looking to cut a few corners to save on the bills, its no secret that the economy has not exactly been real great... There is a difference between cutting corners and outright theft. Let me tell you, all that shit will catch up to you one day, and then you will really know what ghetto is.
