Then go to www.costco.com because they start their employees at $11/hr. When I was there last night, the guy ringing me up was a total fucktard. I can't imagine you having a problem getting hired there. I applied on-line, but have not heard from them yet.

Thats pretty good for retail, I'd hate to work weekends there though. Which one did you apply at?

stu

I accidentally applied at the one in Arvada. I'd much rather work at the one in Lakewood on S. Wadsworth.

They got good benefits too! Or so I think. They seem to be a company who takes care of their employees. I watched an article on the Tele a while ago and I think the CEO makes pretty much Dog shit(like under 200k) compared to CEO's of other like companys.Ide say go for costco.

Yeah, thats some bullshit right there. I work Friday and Saturday nights at 24hr. They treat me better than the day time people. Mainly because they KNOW its hard as f**k to work graveyard especially on weekends. Plus no one wants to work graveyard on weekends. The other nights guy that works during the week. He gets treated very well. All I can say, if you look for a night job, make sure the people you work for or with are cool. If not, your gonna quit or dread going to work. Mine on the other hand isnt as bad, just blows since my weekends are always ruined.

Ohh well, On the bright side, Im sure it helps with saving money and whatnot. My current job is the only one that I have ever had which is M-F 9-5(8-5 actually). Eventually when you move on, or move up, your schedule will be better fit to your desires. and +1 for the people you work for/with it can make or break how much you like your job.

I worked at King Soopers during high school... it was pretty much the same kind of crap, except that they'd pay the premiums for working certain hours or in other departments, and they weren't quite as harsh about clocking in early. I did pretty well there... got promoted to Checker in under a year and I was only 16, when you were really supposed to be 18 for that job. But between their repeated jerking me around on hours, plus the dumbass customers that I'd had to deal with all the time, I had enough and quit. It sucked because our service manager was a really good guy and would try to make things right, but there was a lot of BS that went on when he wasn't around and it drove a lot of us to quit.

Yeah, I think retail just sucks in general. Every other employee just pawns their job on the next person in line. Ugh...I wish college didn't take so long.

What are you in college for, anyway? I mean, what's your major and intended career?

I'm a biology major, I'd like to do something to do with environmental science (field study or alternative fuels research is my goal)

I'm trying to get in as a stocker. I don't want to be a checker. I deal with people enough at my day job. In fact, I'd do pretty much anything other than being a checker.

Believe it or not, working nights sucks. Sure you save money, but you literally have no fucking life. I work 2pm-11pm mon-fri and I haven't really done ANYTHING other than snowboarding a few times since I started working there. On the plus side, not waking up to an alarm clock every day is really nice, but damn

I work for Safeway and have for 19 years now but i;m a good employee and not one of the POSs that break rules and get teh union to bail them out. I've never once had a problem.
The union keeps my pay sensible and gets me bennies and 5 weeks vacation in our contract but we should've went on strike in '04 since our insurance took a hit but people got scared and let the company win. Our contract is up in '09 and Safeway's hiring practices have been pretty crappy and they can't find help with this new contract and hopefully we will get them by the balls and make Safeway a decent place to work for new hires.

Oh please..I worked for Target for YEARS as a manager and this guy is only one thing..

FULL OF SHIT. Either..

We are not getting the true and total story. -OR-

He is a flaming moron.

The people at the store will actually get in a LOT of trouble for not getting his pay to him on time, its breaking one of colorados pretty serious labor laws. It would take one phone call to a district level HR person and you would have your check in your hand within 24 hours. I guarantee it. End of story.

^ That is true....I worked for lowe's night stocking for a week got sick cuz my body couldnt handle it and the fact i was not eating didnt help either. 2-3 months later i go in and they still gave me my check.

We've avoided a strike since '96 but we need to hold the industry's nuts to the fire since they want to reduce our help to Wally world type of help and never keep people longer than a year which is now how long you have to work to get real insurance and newer employees just don't get the same bennies as the older employees do so they really want to get rid of us.

Bad mood when I wrote this thread or not, I swear to god everything I said in this thread is true. And I did talk to corporate HR and all that got me was "talk to your local HR and they can talk to me and reissue the check". I've done that, now I have to wait another week for the next payday. If being pissed about having to wait 2 months for a paycheck from your ex-employer makes me a flaming moron, then I will flame on my friend. Because intentional or not, this is bullshit.

Threaten them with a lawyer? I mean, yeah a target paycheck aint shit to a lawyer, but even threatening legal action can have some pretty sizeable effects.

maybe start the paperwork yourself to sue them, and see where the chips fall

Sorry guys, I haven't checked this thread in a while.... If you like one of the jobs on the website, PM me the description and I will get the pay rate for you. I do work for Comcast, and I LOVE it. The free services I get are awesome, not to mention the other benefits. The pay rates here are pretty good, but when you add the perks it is clear that there are few jobs as good as this one these days.
