From what I've heard, Dental insurance is expensive as hell, but I thought maybe I'd let somebody else chime in. So heres the deal, I'm 19, a full-time student and under my mom's health insurance that doesn't cover dental work. My part-time job doesn't provide benefits and working full-time somewhere is almost impossible at most places with my school schedule. Do I have any options to get decent dental insurance (for cleanings, wisdom teeth extraction etc.) without having to sell my soul?

I heard comfort dental has some kind thing for people who don't have insurance for dental.

Comfort Dental does have a program you get into for a monthly fee for at least a year,I think it's around $130 for the year) and you get a big discount on procedures and checkups.

You can buy dental coverage on your own too. I've got United HealthCare dental through my work for like $10/mo, but I believe you can buy the same plan on your own for a little more. Checkups/x-ray/cleaning is free, most everything else they pay 80% of, and big stuff like crowns is 50% after a 1 year waiting period.

I need to go make use of it soon... had one old filling fall out, and another is loose... :(

I have Medical Coverage through United @ my work, but I didn't know they had Dental? They actually cover me through Metlife, which is about the same price you mentioned, Also very similar coverage. Do you have the same?

www.dentaldiscounts.com (http://www.dentaldiscounts.com) I had a root canal done for half the price, cleanings are cheaper then half, visits are only a dollar too. worth the 119$ a year.

Nope, CSU offers health insurance, but its pretty basic and doesn't cover dental related expenses.

That sucks. Mines offered the same sort of basic health insurance but dental was covered.

got a filling and a wisdom tooth pulled (didn't have it done when i have the lower ones removed) today... wasn't bad at all. bill only came out to $356.

M@ what are you doing for a $1500 bill?

I admit that i neglect dental visits unless i have to. I should start going to annual visits and cleanings.

$3,000 total... $1,500 each side, Simon. :(

Deep cleaning. They have to use lots of Novocaine, and lots of cleaning. They dig deeeep down under my gums and get out any plaque under the gums that cause gingivitis, and also polished the teeth as well. Cha-fucking-ching. I need to be a dentist.

He said they covered 90%.

Sounds more like an introduction to a tooth brush is in order.

Um, okay? I brush twice daily, and use mouthwash. I don't floss regularly, but I'm going to start. A deep cleaning simply cleans out the garbage your brush is unable to get to; mainly if you haven't been to the dentist for regular cleanings, especially in a long time, such as myself.

Simon, mine was about $210 total. I'm pretty sure it's only for the one side of my mouth... I tried asking their assistant, but she didn't speak very good English, so I just said fuck it... need to get it done anyways.
