View Full Version : Place to go for alarms?

What is the best place to go for an alarm? Nothing fancy that comes with a pager or anything, but just something that will make lots of noise when someone tries to break in (specifically, if it worked against the method used to break in 99-00 civics it'd be best, ie detecting them pulling the window out enough so they can reach in and unlock the door).

Any brands or models that people like?

DEI is all I've ever recommended. They make python, viper (top of the line), clifford, etc.

You can add things beyond the standard alarm such as a piezo siren inside the car. I wouldn't want to sit in the car and try to find one when it's screaming.

I can't think of anything that would (easily) trigger when the window is being flexed but an alarm would go off as soon as the door is opened.

DEI won't sell direct and most places won't sell the alarm without installation. You can usually find decent prices on eBay and I could install it for you. If you're interested, shoot me a PM.

Smaller more knowledgable shops--- i use place 's like CarToys or Drive In. Bix box retailers (best buy, circuit city) are ok for basic stuff, but I would rather have a good installer hook up an alarm

Car Toys is where I have gone, and DEI is the best way to go or CODE Alarm is good as well

Try looking on the intenet man. i found my clifford alarm for a decent price and had cartoys install it. Plus i added 2 horns in the engine bay and one horn inside and a backup battery plus 4 kill switches(i know 4 kill switches is a lot but you need it with the amount of cars getting jacked out here) so if any of the bastards out there try to steal my car they better bring earmuffs.

I am a CODEalarm dealer DrJ. Either I can install one for you or sell you just the unit if you want to install it yourself. I have one in stock that a customer never picked up I will sell you for cheap.

Car Toys is a ripoff. They wanted around $575 to install a double DIN stereo/nav into a girl friend of mine's car. I looked up Crutchfield's install kit and it was about $60 for the mounting kit and adapter harnesses. WTfux?

What kind of vehicle... sometimes there is a lot more to it then meets the eye. Like disabling factory amps and alarms. Rerunning speaker cable... etc.

Still sounds like too much though.

The Crutchfield harness will reroute the Bose system.

The sales guy said $250 for the mounting bracket and they'd wrap it in vinyl.

buying an install kit and actually installing the thing are 2 completely different things.
Car toys is a bit steep but people do pay them so why not. Especially if you're talking about custom bezels wrapped in vinyl.

sadly enough you get ripped off on prices no matter where you go, that 550$ alarm you can buy for 150$
