Trying to help a friend here...

Motor: 91 Civic Si motor (All new, never started before, rebuilt w/ oem parts top to bottom)
ECU & Engine Harness: 93 Civic CX
Car:1995 Civic EX
(^yes it's an odd combo, it's a long, long story. We just need the car to get my buddy back and forth to work this winter)

Problem: Will not fire up.

It has fuel, it has spark. He has swapped out several sets of injectors, main relays, distys, fuel rail, intake mani.

It is throwing code 8 (Top dead center?).

If you shoot starting fluid into the intake it will fire for a second but then die right away. He's an old school Honda guy and has no idea what to try next. The only constant has been the ECU and harness, so he's thinking about trying another ECU perhaps???

Thanks for any ideas guys!!! We need to get this car running this weekend!!!:)

sounds like the timing is off a tooth or so. Have you adjusted the dizzy and tried firing it yet?

did you try a different distributor? I think the ECU uses TDC for fuel injection timing.
And one other question.. did you use the cx injectors? the 91 has low impedance and the 95 uses high impedance.. It'll run on the low, but the injectors wont live very long.

Ok guys thanks for the info.
Here is the deal, we think it has something to do with the injectors not firing. There is a 2 wire chassis plug on the left side of the endine bay(passenger side) that is not plugged into anything. It has a yellow/black wire and a solid red wire. There is no available plug for that plug to go to. We swapped in the cars engine harness and it also does not have a plug for that to use??
When we tap the yellow/black wire to the positive battery post you can hear the injectors opening.
Now we are currently using the car's injectors('95 civic)...are those the right ones for this setup?? Any ideas on getting the injectors to fire???
Thanks!!

Checkout the info I just posted above^. I just asked and he is currently running an obd-0 distributor wired over to obd-1.

Hacked up dizzy, ay? Might wanna' recheck the wiring in that thing. Sounds like a dizzy issue to me.

if u are using the obd0 dizzy u have too use the obd0 ecu because the internals are different I can't really remember but either the obd0 or the obd1 dizzy have a extra tooth in the internals gears. the internals of the obd1 and obd2 is the same but the obd0 is different so I am willing to put money down if u use the obd1 ecu u are golden

If you dont have power to the yellow black wire on that connector, you dont have power to anything under the hood, injectors, IAC, etc etc. Sounds like you got a connector or two crossed and possibly burnt a fuse.

what he said
doesn't the black/yellow harness on the drivers side have a jumper connector in it?

Yes, those would the ones i'd want to use.:)
Sounds kinda like the distributor might not be doing it's job all the way.especially with a hard recode #8 for TDC signal.

Update: It was the disty, plugged in an obd-1 disty and it fired right up and purred like a kitten.
Thanks guys.
