Ok, long story short I used to pay $50/week for pretty good health insurance through work. I feel thats a little high(maybe it's not, I just don't know)
Are there any independent health insurance companies that offer descent coverage for less then that? If so, where can I look for some info about this or who can I talk to?
Thanks for any info.

$50/week is a little high if you're healthy. Dave recommended someone to me and it was going to cost ~$100/mo.
I pay about $70 a month through my work. $50 a week is really high.

Im not sure what I pay Mark, but Barb shopped around quite a while and found some OK deals for self employed people. I will Pm this thread to her so she can put in her $.02

Check out Blue Cross Blue Shield. I used them when I was contracting since the company I worked for wanted too much. My monthly premiums was only about $68 or so.

My work pays 100% for me and my wife but I had to buy insurance for my son. I went with Anthem working out really well and I pay $170 a month.

If anyone needs some health insurance contacts, PM me. I have two people that I work with that do great work and have several companies that they can quote. That way they can find the company that best fits your needs.

i pay $64 a month for shitty health insurance. Ha i love their website though. It will tell you how much outta pocket pretty much every procedure will cost. To remove one of my testicles it would cost me $1K. The next tier is $140 a month with only a small decrease in deductible and 90% instead of 80% coverage.

After the new year so I don't pay my deductible now and then pay it again next year. The decision for doing it after the year has nothing to do with religion either.
You don't ever want kids Brandon?
By the way, my dad sells health insurance as well. Let me know if anyone would like his number for just another contact.

My job offers 50 a month for health insurance but i dunno what it covers. I'm only 19 and healthy as an ox. So I dont think ill get health insurance till i'm 25ish.
Until you get jumped in a parking lot and find out that going to the ER for 4 hours costs you over $1,600. And that's NOT riding in an ambulance.

True that, one freak accident and you can royally screw yourself over financially.
Ask Bedlam about needing health insurance.

Word and word. My buddy said the same thing...One burst appendix later he had to file bankruptcy due to the $50,000 medical bills.

i'm still in the search for insurance.
and wondering if its worth paying for a plan with a huge deductible (like $2500-$5000) and having a monthly payment under $100, or paying ~$137 a month and having little to no deductible. hmmm

my company just switched to a high deductible plan and i personally do not like it. before the change i can go to the dr anytime and pay a copay of $25 and be done, now i have to pay the entire bill (including lab work). My wife and i want to start a family, so the cost of having a baby jumped up to 5000 (single) or 10000 (joint). We both work for the same company so do not really have any options. We are seeing a lot of changes at the executive level, so hopefully it will change in feb (open enrollment).

Get a stretch Ferrari and it'll be cheaper then an ambulance...
But seriously, don't ever get caught w/o health insurance, it'll be the worst mistake ever. If you have the option for health insurance in your financial situation and you opt out of it, it will be one of the dumbest choices in life.
