View Full Version : Lots of gauges now. now what?

I have several new gauges now.
1.) B&M fuel pressure gauge (underhood) I put this one on this afternoon and seems to be working fine. Is the needle suppose to flicker? I flickers about 5 psi (i should go look at it again).
2.) Boost gauge (JR) it has 2 wires and a tube (vacuum?). I figured the wires are just for power/ground. Where do I tee the tube to? Where is a hole in the firewall where I can send the tube into the engine bay?
3.) A/F gauge (JR) has 3 wires. (red, black, purple) Again I figure 2 are for power/ground and the other one is more or less a 'signal' wire(O2 sensor). Can anybody tell me where these go? or have a link to a site. I tried searching on Club Si, but didn't find anything.
Thanks for all the help.

there used to be some nice pics on ClubSI on the install but there all gone. check this site out http://www.hondaracing.ca/installs/airfuel/index.htm
The firewall is on the drivers side, you could use a hanger wire and tape the vacuum tube to it then just punch through the firewall.

Do those gauges not have the White wire for lights? Or did you forget to mention it?

thanks everyone. with some luck and good weather they should be in tomorrow or sunday
Dustin, one of the wires coming out of the boost gauge is white. I assume since it is operates mechanically that the power wire must be for lights. A/F gauge is red, black, and purple

If you need help with it, I can help you install both.

i tee'd the boost gauge line to the hose that goes to the thing that closes the "blow-off" valve. It shows vacuum, but not boost. is this the wrong hose to tee the gauge too?

yes, you should have tee'd it off of the top rear of the intake manifold, where you should have some other vacuum hoses going to such things as your FPR and JR FMU.

boost guage should be tapped between the intake mani and the FPS/FPR. since the FPS/FPR needs boost and vacuum to properly adjust your fuel trims.
enjoy.

got everything put in. i realized i don't boost very much.
Question: Is the A/F gauge suppose to jump around all the time. I know it is suppose to move depending on throttle position and stuff. but mine at idle or cruise "dances" around a lot. And when i get off the gas (coming to a red light) it goes full lean and then the led dimmers and sometimes stays off until the light turns green and i start going again.

yep, the A/F gauge thing is perfectly normal... What it's showing is the ECU in closed loop mode, where it tries to keep the A/F ratio as close to 14.7:1 as possible. It bounces all the time because it really can't keep up with the speed of the ECU. And don't worry about the lean as you are coming to a stop... that helps slow the engine down by running it lean, and since it's not under load, it's not going to detonate or anything.

the fact that the light actually goes away is fine too? i just thought that was odd. thanks for the help.

yep, perfectly fine. Mine does it all the time. When it goes away, it's basically saying that it can't read the voltage from the ECU/o2 sensor because it's too low, so it therefore doesn't show the light. If you don't see any lights when you're in boost, however, then it's time to be worried.
