Kid in Nigeria built a helicopter out of scrap aluminum and a d16 motor.

It has never reached an altitude of more than 7 feet. His next one is supposed to only be able to obtain an altitude of 15 feet for a 3 hour stretch. Still pretty cool when you think about it though.

That pretty cool, but I don't think I'd want to be anywhere around it when it's operating. 3rd world countries aren't exactly known for making good vehicles, it being experimental doesn't really inspire confidence, and it's pretty damn important to know WTF you're doing when building or flying a helicopter... it's a bit more complicated than an airplane.

The part where he says that he is disappointed that the government hasn't contacted him about making helicopters for his entire country cracks me up! I guess I don't understand why the government wouldn't be interested in a second hand kit helicopter that can obtain an altitude of 7 feet. lol

They might have interested if he made it run on plutonium instead of gas..
