Eh, his idea does have some merit, but he fails to realize how much energy is actually required to pressurize the engine's air flow on-the-fly... It's pretty much like trying to compress the air in a tank that has a massive leak. It is possible to make an electric supercharger that produces a decent amount of boost, but it's electricity consumption would be very very high. Maybe you could get an extra car battery or two to last long enough for a 1/4 mile pass, but there are still some problems with flowing that much current, and you'd spend a heck of a lot more time recharging... You'd be hoping for at least an hour between runs, and you'd have your engine running the whole time.

The next thought would be to upgrade the alternator to produce enough power to run the supercharger continously, but aside from the technical difficulties with that, you're just converting mechanical motion into electricity and then electricity back into mechanical motion, which is just a very inefficient belt-driven supercharger. You might as well just go the conventional route, which doesn't waste energy in electrical conversions. Or, you could be even more efficient and harness the waste energy in the exhaust with a turbocharger. A turbo alone (ie boost not hooked up) does reduce engine output, but it also harnesses a lot of energy, much of which was previously wasted, so it can produce lots of boost to greatly increase engine output. It comes at less of a cost to the engine than driving the compressor with a belt.

Turbo = Free horsepower driven by exhaust gas and never need recharging.

That's the kind of system you put into a car when you can't get into a club. I was waiting for his dad to bust into the garage and start yelling, "God damnit Daniel! Turn that shit off, it's 10:00 o'clock at night!"
