In every single one of them, we had classes to learn the basics, like "how much does this cost" "hello, how are you", etc. When we would go to the markets, are trips, or others, we spoke their language. Of course in tourist areas, you could generally find people that spoke english.

I believe that America is awesome for its multiple cultures, diversity, etc. But I believe just as others before me who go to other countries taking out there little lanhguage book to translate a small sentence, people that come to our country should learn our language and address us as so. Keep your culture, beliefs, language. But learn ours and respect our culture, or go back to your clearly superior country.

For the record, I speak spanish decently and can communicate enough to get by. I went to Mexico for a week and even picked up some girls that only spoke spanish. I took my time/effort to learn their language so when I travel, I can communicate. I don't expect anyone to cater to me there. If i can't speak their language, than I'm a dumbass for going there. Now if they are seriously trying to learn english than that's a different story. But what's happening now is there are so many people that only speak spanish, they don't have as big of a need to learn english. They can get by in the hispanic communities by just speaking spanish. I don't think anybody is pro-illegal immigrant in this thread. What I'm saying is that we need to reform the system to be more secure, which is what this argument was originally about (think: September 11th). But lately everybody has turned it around to be about people singing the national anthem in Spanish and having to press one for English.

These issues don't matter, just because the majority of people speak one language doesn't mean that should be the only language spoken. You have the right to free speech, how does that not apply to a language? Flying a Mexican flag over our flag is illegal, using pesos as a currency in America is illegal, and nobody is arguing in favor of this kind of stuff.
