Check this thing out...hard to believe their claims...but I guess we'll see if it ever makes it to the road.

Most fighter jets are fly by wire. It's a pretty safe setup if you have backup systems and such.

On the otherhand GM can't even seem to make the brakes work on their cars with physical connections so I don't know that I would trust their computers ;).... There must have been 3 or 4 GM vehicles that drove off the side of pikespeak last year because the brakes went out.

gm throttle cotrols have been wired for years. The Vette for sure is one of them. Also the Honda passport since 2000 has a drive by wire throttle and computerized eletronic starter. You turn the key and nothing happens, then it starts up all by itself when all of the system checks are done. Stupid I think. Also very hard to work on when it breaks. (which is always)

The newer VW's use throttle by wire

They will have to make all the passengers take a sobriety test before the car would start. How would you like your drunk friend to just hand you the wheel right before the cop walks up to the window. That is the problem with electronic systems that allow almost anyone in the car to drive.

and with everything electronic than the cops can get you in an even newer way by remotely shutting the car down or taking control of the car all together.... its probably 20 yrs down the road when they could do that, but I'll stick to my mechanically controlled car for as long as I can.

There are somethings that you want complete controll over... perceived or not

GM likes to cut a lot of corners to lower costs, so I wouldn't really be willing to trust their drive-by-wire system or their car in general. I'd like to buy American and all, but not when I'm going to get ripped off and not when I'd be risking my safety.

I'd be surprised to see this actually come to market. GM does a lot of "concept" crap that gets them attention, but then they just scrap it. I'm sure I'm not the only one who doesn't take them seriously.
