View Full Version : I need a new job! (IT field)

Hello all. I need a new job, I am currently employed, and will be so until I find one. I have been at my company for a little over a year, and can use them as a job reference. I do everything from Point of Sale, understand SQL, and am damn proficient with XP. I also love networking, and am multiskilled, and will have the certifications up to MCSE very soon. I am also a very fast learner, and am reliable and easy going.

I am in the IT field, and am currently in school going for my MCSE. I currently have a network+ certification, though am skilled in much more, and will be getting up to MCSA certs by the end of this year. I am in the Springs, but am willing to travel to Denver for work.

Reason I am leaving (or wanting to at least) is I am a commission employee, and my boss takes full advantage of that. Sometimes I get 1000+ a week after taxes, other 300 a week after. Shit is killing me right now, and with all the FREE work my boss has me doing, I work my ass off now for a shitty check.

I am open to anything, would like a junior admin job or something, but am very flexible. Also willing to work ANY hours, and Holidays (I do already), overtime would be welcome as well. Anyone have or know of anything available? I would like to make at least $25-30k a year for now.

Thanks!

No, but I would LOVE to learn! I am thinking of taking c++ after my MCSE course is done and complete.

C++ is good if you want to understand how programs work.

Java or C# (or maybe Python) is best if you really want to program.

Yeah, C++ is a good beginner language, but I've never liked it for actually getting things done, and I don't see it used much outside of classrooms. You're far more likely to run into C, Java, or even VisualBasic, than C++.

Just do the world a favor and don't use Java for absolutely anything and everything that you code. It can do some cool things, but it's not practical for everything. Using Java where is doesn't belong is a disturbing trend that makes headaches for everyone.

Go here and select search for jobs, the create a login. There are 40 positions available where I am transferring to:

http://www.comcast.com/Corporate/About/Careers/Careers.html?lid=2AboutCareers&pos=Nav

I am going to be in Centennial, but there are positions all over Colorado there.

Ay, I don't know Domino or Unix unfortunatley. I have been in this career field for a year now; and while its a poor excuse, I have never been in a situation to get to know them. Thats one of the reasons I would like to leave my job, I'm wasting my time on residential stuff when I need to be getting into the Unix/Linux admin stuff.

But, I am more than willing to learn, and may even go pick up a few books.

I know exactly where you will be working, pretty good entry level job!!! I bet Deceptakhan would like that job if he was looking to get into the Voice side of Networking.

QCII likes to lay off a ton of people if you're contracted. If you are contracted only expect to work there for about 8 months.

I've already been with the company for about 6 months at 183 Inverness. I am transferring on over there as a Comcast employee, not a contractor. But good lookin' out yO! Hey Kev, I was doing the experimental queue over there for all 3 products. We were the first to take all of them in chat. Fun stuff. I am looking forward to voice, it is much quicker than over the chat depending on what you are doing. I will be working under Colleen ____ I forget that last name :D I hear a one of the last people to try and go over there from our department got scared off in the interview. I have no worries though.

any supervisor/manager positions open in comcast in the technical/software testing dept???

Actually, if you follow the first link, there is a sup position in the department I am going to be in. There are sure to be some other jobs posted that you would be interested in in addition to the sup one. When you search, it will ask you at one point about state, city, part time or full time, etc. That will tell you that you are in the right place. Once it pulls the list for Colorado you should see it like the 2nd or 3rd entry.
