OKay so my brother lives in South Dakota(No emissions requirements) and I want to register my car to his address. Will they let me register the car there with insurance for my current CO address? or will I have to Get the insurance switched as well? Does the insurance company usually require someone to get a license in the new state? I basically just want to keep my CO license and Register the car there. My excuse (to the man) is that I visit alot down there and want to have a car there when I visit. Of course I would be driving the car down here (daily) but still. Any help would be appreciated.

some states require a vin check, where you have to bring the vehicle to a certified technician to verify that the vin is legit.
as far as insurance, that depends on SD. I'm too lazy to look it up.
but also remember that in CO, technically its illegal drive around with out of state plates.

Well I know that there is no VIN checks. As far as it being illegal, that is only bad if the 5-0's decide to mess with me.(Wont be a problem when I shut up my exhaust and Get rid of my nasty ass altezza lights) Or if one (5-0) notices my car over time? I figured I drove around with CA plates for almost a year and no hassle. Either way it is more or less a 2 year temp fix to an emissions problem. Until I swap and/or at least get a New harness.

So you're saying anyone who cruises through is illegal? I highly doubt it.

If you are a permanent resident in CO and your car is registered out of state for more than 30 days it is illegal.

who is going to catch you though?? I had my CA plates for like a year. Got pulled over and everything, no problems.
They generally don't care about out of state plates. They just tell you to get new ones, you say "okay" and they let you go.
