Allright i have a 95 GSR. I was wondering if there is any possible way to make my VTEC crossover sound like the 99-00 Si does. I Always hear them fly by me and VTEC blares loud and im jealous.:p Does anyone know what i have to do to make it sound as loud as the 99-00 Si's?
Thanks for your help.

no but seriously, would i have to get a B16 head or a intake manifold or both or what? Im just lost. i should be getting by JG Edelbrock intake manifold here soon so i'll see what it sounds like after i put that on.
Any one else have any other suggestions or do you think that new JG intake manifold will solve the problem?
Thanks,
Bryan

Get yourself a cold air. Nasty crossover sound then. Plus it sucks up small children when you blast through school zones.

the AEM CAI makes a huge difference in sound. if you have a loud exhaust it kinda drowns it out tho.

Sweet! Mine picks up money and conveniently deposits it into the coin holder.

Get a cold air. Either that or just stick your head out the window and go buuuuuaaaaaaaaaa!

The thing that made the vtec crossover (and intake runners changing) more audible in my car than any of the other mods, was the high flow cat. I have a 2.5" Powercore cat and it made the car waaaay more loud in the higher rpms. My cai also added to the sound, but for the intake runners changing and the vtec crossover, the cat made the most noticeable difference.

It's the intake manifold. You have dual runners and your VTEC kicks in at 4400 then the runners open at 5700 vs. 5500 VTEC on the B16. Once you change your intake then change you VTEC to a higher point and your car will be loader in VTEC.

so if you get [for example] a skunk2 IM for a gsr, should you change the vtec engagement point, since it is different on the other DOHC VTEC motors that do not have the dual runner IM?

well i already have a AEM CAI on my car and i can hear the runners switch from the intake at like 5800 and of course the VTEC kicks in on my car at 4400 RPM. I just wanted the actual VTEC to kick in as loud as the 99-00 Si's. You can only hear my VTEC out of my exhaust and i want to be able to hear it from the front more clearer also. The cat would just make it sound louder out the exhaust, which is ok i guess but i wanted it to be from the front. If it cant be done it's no biggie, just thought i would ask to see if it's been done.
Thanks

well i'm not sure how ,but the vtec crossover in mine was mean as hell.. i mean loud and nasty..
also i had a 23 hp jump on vtec(as measured on a dyno to the wheels)
but i have a pretty unique setup though..

I put a AEM CAI on mine and the crossover is pretty damn nasty. Took me down to a 16.1 also (Thanks Butch and Alex). What about swapping a B16A head on, or just some parts from the Si?

yea that's exactly what i was thinkin....gettin a B16A2 head because i "heard" the B16 cams are more agressive. I just wanna get the straight out answer to why the Si's are so loud. Is it the intake manifold? the head? Im not sure. I guess i could be the first to find out and throw the B16 head on there and see if it works.

It's pretty much everything. You can't blame that it's quieter for one part or the other. Intake will help, T-body will help, Imanf. will help, cams will really help (w/ valvetrain), header, exhaust... wanna one-up homeboy in the Si? Take the exhaust off. That will do it.

or get a turbo. a BOV sound better than a vtec x-over any day.

I got that answer from chris. getting a turbo is his answer to everything! ;) :fro:

Hrmm...Violator00RH did that on Sunday. It was reasonably loud. Reminded me of Nascar or something! :)

Did I mention a high flow cat yet? Or better yet, a race cat (no catalytic element) or a test pipe. My little brother had a race cat in his '94 Civic dx, thing was so loud when vtec hit it was annoying. But then again, he had a b16a swap in it, haha :p
