Utorrent is the best I have ever seen. I spend a lot of time on the computer too.

Definately uTorrent. But if you want faster downloads with alot less crap, go with newsgroups. I signed up for $14 a month (unlimited downloads) and average about 850-950KB/s for all downloads.. Yeah it's $14 a month but I was paying that for Netflix...

I down loaded Utorrent, but I have NO idea how to down load something. What is the next step? Anyone care to walk me through it?

Just go to a torrent site and find a torrent you like. After you click the download link, it will open utorrent and ask if these files are to be downloaded. After clicking ok, you will be able to see the information, and tabs on the bottom and the torrent itself downloading on the top. Here is my favorite place to start looking for torrents, it offers many popular torrent search engines together in one search: www.torrents.to

I am trying to download a song right now to get the hang of how this works. I feel like it's going really slowly. Is there something that I need to be doing with seeding or something?

EDIT: Now it is moving faster.

It takes a bit to get going. Once it starts to get plenty of peers, it will speed up. How did you get one song? I usually get albums or discographies. I never tried to get one song by itself before.

I actually just got a whole album. So the next question is, once I have the album downloaded, how to I get it into my media player? Where does the file go to once it's completed?

stu

Never mind, I was able to find it. Is there a specific file that things are saved to?

Evil_SpeedRacer

Right click the folder it is in, and select open with "insert popular media player here" and you should be good to go. Once the file is completed, it should be in "My documents", in the folder named Downloads.

EDIT: It will always put it in that folder, unless you specify you want it put somwhere else in the preferrences menu.

I just download utorrent but I can't Port Forward and give me an error. Does anyone know how to bypass this???

Evil_SpeedRacer

You can try and set it to random, or try other ports. I still got decent speeds, but it will be unable to connect to several versions of the file named something else, or uploaded on other search sites. Do you have a firewall up?

honda1982
08-26-2007, 10:25 PM
how do you disable the firewall? I disable my Norton and still it didn't work. how do you change the port on the speed guide? it doesn't give me the option to change it on Speed guide.

Evil_SpeedRacer

Is the windows firewall up still? That might be it as well. you might have to try many ports to get it to work right. The 2 default ports should be 6881, and the tracker port would be 4444. This thread could be called Evil's troubleshooting thread today!

okay firewall is off and norton is disable and still I can't port forwarded. In the "Speed Guide" 2) it said current port 32459 but I can't change it since it doesn't let me. HOW DO YOU CHANGE THE PORT????

Evil_SpeedRacer
08-26-2007, 11:07 PM
Go to options, preferences, then connection. Make sure you enter the port in the box next to the random port button. Do not hit that button. next make sure that randomize port each time is unchecked below that. All of the other boxes should be checked.

demonoid is probably the best place to get fresh torrents.

OR

Thepiratebay.org is a massive, massive tracker (dump of .torrent files you need to download files) as well and is public, unlike demonoid which you need an invite to get into.

How do you open and run a RAR file?

stu

Nevermind, I'm using Google to figure this stuff out for myself. :)

The torrent user's software swiss army knife would be:

utorrent - duh

winrar - opens any compressed file, zip, 7z, rar, etc

burning software (alcohol 120%, nero, etc.)

daemon tools (GREAT copy protection circumventer, also will create a virtual
CD/DVD drive that you can mount the ISO image files of CD's/DVD's that you download so you don't have to waste a CD to actually burn it.)

Anti-Virus because, well, people are assholes.

lmao at that last part.

But yeah, +1 for all of the above programs. Pretty standard equipment but still the best i've found yet. All can be had in torrent form. WinRAR should be the first you get, since most torrents much bigger than an album will be zipped or archived.

I am using Azureus right now, how does it compair to utorrent? Also what is the best program to use to burn dvd's from avi., divx files? I just downloaded a ton of movies. I can't figure out a fast way to burn any of these files so that I can watch them on my TV.
