I'm approaching the end of my reading list, and am looking for some good book suggestions. I thought I'd query here and see what your favorite books are.
Thus, what's your favorite book?
I know that can sometimes be a hard question to answer if you like to read, so if you need to list a few from different genres (ie fiction/non fiction) to break it up, that's fine (obviously).

The initial d series managa...thats worth the read.
"State of Fear" by Michael Crichton. <--Basically calls bullshit on Global Warming.
"All the Kings Men" <-- Don't remember the author, but it is kind of a classic. With your understanding and appreciation of economics and government, I think you'd really enjoy it.
I'll think of some other ones.

the ender's series was great, as was the dune series. Ender's game was probably one of my most memorable reads.
The andromeda strain by Michael Crichton really struck a nerve with me when the whole biological warfare deal was a huge ordeal as well.

Ender's Game was fantastic, but I haven't read any of the others. I think the reason I have stayed away from them is from what I hear, they don't really focus on Ender, or even on the time era he is in. But rather, they take place much later and focus on other characters.

Wheel of time series by Robert Jordan
Where the wild things are by Maurice Sendak
I don't really have a favorite, as the current favorite changes from month to month. I'm currently reading The Ambler Warning, the newest Harry Potter, and re-reading The Art of War.

The "Prey Series" by John Sandford is a great cop/crime series
The hitchhikers guide to the galaxy is awesome if you like sci-fi
Jack Du Brul writes a good series that's akin to clancy stuff -- look for "mercer" books
And the always popular Vertical Run by.... i think joseph garber. it's like the thinking man's Die Hard

"1995-1999 Ford Contour / Mercury Mystique Repair Manual" by Haynes. A few things with doing the timing belt were unusual/ass-backwards enough to warrant some reading... too bad the book sucked and I had to figure it out for myself anyway.
Oh, and "Going Faster: Mastering the Art of Race Driving" is a good read.

I think I have to answer this question in two parts.
First off, the book (series) I love, because without it, I wouldn't of rediscovered how great reading can be, is Harry Potter. I have to thank a good friend for convincing me to read it. It made me realize that there are lots of great books out there, that can be enjoyed simply for having a great story. They don't all have to take a lot of effort to read, like books you are forced to go through in High School. I don't think any book will ever match the feeling I have for the HP series.
Now, outside of that, the book I have lately really enjoyed is Mistborn (http://www.amazon.com/dp/076531178X?tag=monkeyslothst-20&camp=14573&creative=327641&linkCode=as1&creativeASIN=076531178X&adid=00DS2J00NMVCY7J80JP5&) by Brandon Sanderson (http://www.brandonsanderson.com/). Words can't describe how much I like this book. I have purchased 3 copies of it, simply because I have so many friends/family who read it. My copies are always lent out to someone. I've probably had about 10 people read the book so far, and not a single one has had anything bad to say about it. If you like fantasy, or even just fiction at all, I'd say give it a shot. It's kind of a cross between fantasy, Oceans 11 and Crouching Tiger. I didn't think a book could do some of the things he manages to accomplish here.
Now, aside from those, there are other series that I enjoy. If a fan of fantasy (somehow) hasn't read the George R. R. Martin series, or the Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind, they are both worth checking out.
Also any thing that is by Stephan King.
I disagree. The Dead zone bored the shit out of me. I also didn't like Needful Things very much. I know when I explain it to someone, it sounds like a cool book, but I just didn't really enjoy reading it.
Paul, I want to read Mistborn if it has that high of a recommendation from you.
The other book I was going to suggest is called "King Con" written by Steven J. Cannal. Steven J. Cannal writes a lot of the prime time television shows you see right now, so his books tend to have a wider scope of topics than most authors. Anyway, King Con is kind of like Ocean's 11 of the professional world of con artists. They go up against the mob. It's certainly an entertaining read.
Quick question: Anyone have any recommendations on any classic books or authors? You hear about Gone With The Wind, or War and Peace, but are any of those worth reading?

When do you move? I have 2 copies left at my place so you can come by and borrow one of those.
For most people, I recommend they read Elantris (his first book) first. You will read Elantris, and think, man, this is an amazing book and be realy blown away. Then after that, read Mistborn, and be even more amazed at how much better a book can be. Pretty much everyone agrees that Mistborn is better than Elantris, but everyone also thinks Elantris is one of the best books they've ever read.
I can lend you both if you want.

Last night was my first night in the house. I can stop by later tonight. I'll gladly take both books. I just started one last night ("Legion" by the guy who wrote Exorcist) by I'm only like 5 pages into it, so I can stop no problem.
The Halo books are suprisingly well written and throughly entertaining. The ones written by Eric Nylund are very well done.
I also like the Ringworld Series by Larry Niven, and its funny to compare the two book series' (i think the Halo people got their idea from Ringworld... read the books and you will understand.)

I just read Wizards First Rule by Terry Goodkind. Wow. Excellent read for those who like fantasy and stuff. David Eddings and Terry Brooks are also the shit. I got way too bored with the Wheel of Time series.

Have you read any Ayn Rand?
What did you think of the Wizard's First Rule (the actual rule, not the book)?
I read the rest of the series minus the last 2 books recently. I really enjoyed them. If someone has a lot of time and wants to get into a big series, I'd say it's a good option.

Sweet! Yeah, definently not a kids book, and so many well thought out plot twists, wow.
And I think that the Wizards firtst rule is absolutely true. People are stupid.

The sequal to Mistborn (and the 2nd in the trilogy) came out recently.
I have to say, that now takes the prize for my favorite book.
After reading the first one I kept thinking about how amazing of a movie it would be. Reading the second made me realize that they couldn't make it into a movie even if they had Jet Li playing the main character (who's a female) with the guys from the Matrix and Crouching Tiger doing the fight scenes and special effects. There is no way they could do the action scenes justice the way they are described and play out in the book.
If you need something to read, pick these two up. You won't regret it (or at least the 13 people I've gotten to read them so far have all loved them)

While watching the GOP debates, Ron Paul suggested two books during one of his speeches. Overthrow and Blowback. I highly suggest both books. Overthrow is very easy to read (like a harry potter book) and is highly informative. I suggest you read it if you are interested, it details America's overthrow of governments and attempts from Hawaii to Iraq.
I finished Elantris that DrJones suggested. It was a great book. I'm only like 65 pages into Mistborn and I can already tell that I like it better than Elantris. :)

Harry Potter is my favorite series by far. So far though, it looks like Mistborn is about to take the cake.

Don't give too much away, as I like to read books with knowing as little as possible about them.
