Well, considering buying a Jeep Cherokee. I don't know too much about them so I was hoping you guys could give me some pointers on what to look out for and what to keep in mind. This is mainly going to be a DD with some occaional mountain trail use when I go with my wifes uncle dirt biking.

I'm not trying to be an ass but you might have better luck on co4x4 or a jHeep forum.
There's only like 4 guys on here that drive jeeps

4Runners aren't everywhere and they truly are trouble free for the abuse they can take. Jeeps are a dime a dozen thus their popularity;cheap to mod and wheel.

Jeeps have a better and more price flexible aftermarket but my friend's have less miles on their Cherokee Sports than I have on my 4Runner and have a multitude of issues while mine's had some bushings replaced and rear axle seals in 130k miles.

So,what are your intentions with this vehicle purchase? You want the GC or the Sport model of Cherokee?

I know I'm biased but the 4Runner is a better built vehicle and it's great as a DD and handles the intermediate roading I throw at it. 4Runners do cost more and there's a reason for it.

3rd gens are coming down in price now that the 4th gens are going into their 6th year.

I honestly don't know much about jeeps besides anything from 85-99 usually will interchange. That is the reason I'm trying to research them.

My uses would probably be the same as you have described DD and occasional intermediate roading/hauling. The only mods I would consider doing is a 2" lift and larger tires for a bit more clearance.

I've looked into the 3g 4runners as they are around the price I'm looking for. I know more about them than Jeeps but I'm keeping my options open.
