I had a kid in my class last weekend that learned to wear gear the hard way. He low sided going into a corner and got some pretty bad road rash. He went out after class that day and bought a jacket. It was a good thing he learned this while in a parking lot at 15 mph instead of on the street going 25+ mph.

Exactly. It's pretty easy to ride safe on the highway, but it's even easier to have some fun and increase your risks. And I completely agree about the car drivers who are idiots as well. I love riding... it's an absolute blast. But being stereotyped with these reckless people is unfortunate.

Most people that drive like they're speed racers and feel the need to drift around neighborhood corners and other acts of automotive douchebaggery will most likely one day cause an accident or become involved with one. Likewise, most people that ride like they're hot shit and feel the need to weave through traffic and pull wheelies in traffic and other acts of motorcycle douchebaggery will most likely cause an accident or become involved with one.

Traffic rules are in place for a reason, and I understand the risks associated with aggressive and stupid riding behaviours. I've done my fair share of speeding and lane splitting in traffic, and have had a few close calls. Do I still do it? Occasionally. Do I know that I'm at fault if something happens? Yes. Can I do whatever I want on a public road? Yes. Is it legal? No. Am I going to pay the price if I'm caught or fuck up? Yes.
