Horsepower, wheel horsepower and brake horsepower.
The horsepower (hp) is the name of several non-metric units (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Units_of_measurement) of power (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_%28physics%29). In scientific discourse, the term "horsepower" is rarely used because of its various definitions and the existence of an SI (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SI) unit for power, the watt (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Watt) (W). However, the idea of horsepower persists as a legacy term in many languages, particularly in the automotive (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automobile) industry for listing the maximum power output of internal-combustion engines (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internal-combustion_engine).
In automobiles, effective horsepower is often referred to as wheel horsepower. Most automotive dynamometers (http://wikicars.org/wiki/en/index.php?title=Dynamometer&action=edit) measure wheel horsepower and then apply a conversion factor to calculate net or brake horsepower at the engine. Wheel horsepower will often be 5-15% lower than the bhp ratings due to a loss through the drivetrain.
Brake horsepower (bhp) is the measure of an engine's horsepower without the loss in power caused by the gearbox, generator, differential, water pump and other auxiliaries. The actual horsepower delivered to the driving wheels is less. An engine would have to be retested to obtain a rating in another system.

BHP is all a hype from manufacture to get you to buy their 300hp car when in reality it only make 265whp. Manufacture for years try to cheat the HP system buy only running only a small amount of oil in the engine to make max HP but under the new standard it require them to run a certain amount of oil in the motor, therefore it make less HP. for example Civic Si 205hp now 197hp, Acura RL 300hp now 290hp. There many other but I forgot them all but it mostly effect small liter imports engine.

Don't forget to factor in the altitude for even greater loss from bhp to whp.
