Damn i'd kill for an OC768! There's absolutely nothing I could do with it personally, hell, even my ram wouldn't be able to keep up with the insane amount of data that would be pouring in.

Anyway, can anyone clarify a few things for me? Not really heavy into the networking stuff, but from what I understand this is a new system running over standard WDM 10G lines? What's the typical range in the current systems before transponders are needed?

So, in a nutshell, this is the bandwidth equivalent to saying if the Eisenhower Tunnel needs to be expanded, by simply rebuilding the entrance and exit of the tunnel they can somehow turn the existing 2 lanes each way into 8 lanes each way without having to do any construction to the tunnel itself?

If so, companies running WDM lines now can get 400% efficiency from their EXISTING fiber, this is absolutely phenomenal. The range on this new system is ~1,250 miles w/o needing transponders, so i'm assuming that since it was mentioned that's a greater range than current WDM setups. That also means they can eliminate current transponder sites i'm guessing, which further saves cash on maintenance. It seems that for people who can, it makes it very lucrative to upgrade to the CRS-1.

Tack a bit of WiMax love inbetween and i see a very beautiful digital future =D

If I could have that connection I would be rich.
