i just bought a new set of drilled rotors and i was getting the install going on my civic. i had everything off except the rotor. the rotor would not come off. there where two screw on the rotor by the lug bolts but i could not get those off either. they looked like they didnt hold anything in. how can i get my rotor off and what are some tips to do so? . . . its pretty rusted all around the brake area.

thanks

I used to use this old school impact screwdriver on those. You would have to hit it with a hammer and it would press and turn the screw at the same time. I suggest using a lot of WD-40 or similar penetrating oil and keep trying. Also be sure and use a screwdriver that fits all the way into the slots. If it is too small, it may strip them out and more drastic measures will be needed to get them out like using a dremel to turn it into a flathead or even worse, the easy out kit.

Sometimes it takes a beating to get them off, check this thread out, it may help out:http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1468386&postid=19137959

not its not, but that does not connect to my rotor in any way. theres a gap or opening around it. the rotor doesnt touch it. i tried hammering, wd40 and all that good jazz but nothing.

You *MUST* remove those screws to pull off the rotor. Rotors are held on by the lugnuts, and sometimes the screws if people choose to leave them on (a lot of people will remove them, but obviously not in your case). You don't have to leave the screws on when you put the new rotors on, as they're to make installing easier and the lugnuts will hold them into place. I personally chose to leave them on on all of my cars.

Get an impact driver. Period. Go by Harbor Freight and get a cheap one if you have to, or Sears and get a Craftsman. Get PB Blaster. It's in a white/red/yellow can found at any parts store by the WD-40. It's pricey, about $7 a can, but VERY worth it. Spray the HELL out of that stuff, let it sit, insert impact driver, smack the mofo's with the hammer, and they should come right out.

If the rotors still won't come off after you remove the screws, spray the PB Blaster around the areas where the rotors sit. (Refer to your new rotors and compare to the old ones for reference on where to spray) Then you can whack the rotor on the surface in between the lug studs a few times (be careful not to hit the studs), and it should fall out of place.

Good luck.

Yeah, the blaster is better. I was thinking the impact was the only way. Hey Blinx, you woulda laughed your ass off watching me try and get the wheels off the Laser. Poor car sat exposed for 2 years in Denver, most of which was 1 place. I was kicking, and hammering the face of the meshes...then my buddy was trying to help. I bet it looked like 2 monkeys effin a football. When they came off, and each one was a pain to get off...I wanted to throw those damn things to Kansas. I was pretty pissed, but yeah such is Colorado when it comes to corrosion. At least its not as bad as up north :)

pb blaster, soak them over night, then you can find a long screw that fits into the holes where the retaining flattop screws fit, then just thread in the screw and it will seperate the rotor. usually overnight soaking, respray every couple hours will eat through the rust and the next morning they usually will come off a couple whacks of a rubber mallet or just try the method about.
Also the impact screwdriver is a must or you will strip the hedd on the screws. g/l
