The A1's have a different intake manifold, use a different transmission, different cams, are older.

What car are you getting, if your car is OBD I get the B16A (SIR or SIR2) if it's OBD II get the B16A2.

JDM motors only say B16A on the block......they don't have a 1 or 2 after the designation. However we crazy americans refer to the first gen SiR(88-91) B16A's as B16A1's and the second generation SiRII (92+) B16A's as B16A2's. You want the second gen SiRII motor. If you even wanted to put the first gen motor in a 92+ civic or a 94+ integra you would need a hydraulic to cable converter and a mount kit for the transmission. Plus the first gen motors are old and decrepid. If you were homeless I wouldn't evne give you a first gen B16 to put in a 92+ car. :D

a local shop quoted me 2500 to 3500 to do the entire swap including trans and any other parts that the engine needs. they also told me that i need to go with the b16a3 because my car OBD II. he told me is that OBD I needs B16A2......
im confused and need to be informed before i go spending thousands og dollars!
good job at bandimere on sunday ViolatorRH00.......it was nice meeting ya. cant wait to see what you run with turbo.

what shop quoted you that high? I bet i could get it done for cheaper. The 88-91 Civic needs the OBD0 B16A SiRI, the 92-95 needs the OBDI B16A SiRII, and the 96+ Needs the OBDII B16A2 SiRII. Sounds pretty confusing but that works the best way.
Good luck with your project and let me know if you want a cheaper quote.

I thought you said you had a 92 hatchback??????? Everything from 1992 to 1995 was OBDI, 96+ is OBDII

where did you go to when they told all that to you? Ya know, a couple of the shops i know of are Trenz, SpeedImage, ImportSports, etc. If you've read the post i have above i think i mentioned what motor should be in what.
Like i said, if you want a cheaper quote just let me know.

If you end up paying $3000 for the swap it's not that bad, I think most places online sell the entire swap for $2500, $500 isnt too bad considering the price of the engine itself. by the way it was good meeting you jose, hopefully we'll have another Hybrid soon.

yea i kinda misread it anyways. If he does the swap for $2500 it's not that bad i guess. The only way they will do it for cheap is if you end up getting the motor from them. If you let me talk to Yi down at Trenz(the owner) then i might be able to get you a lower price. Let me know for sure what he says on the swap and how much it will cost and all and then i'll go from there.
Laterz,
Bryan

FWIW the engine codes are as follows. This is only the actual stamp on the block that this refers to.

-B16A1 - 90-91 Civic/CRX VTi from Europe (the ONLY B16 stamped with B16A1)

-B16A2 - 99-00 Civic Si

-B16A3 - 94-97 del Sol Vtec (weird how the b16a3 is actually older)

-B16A - Could be anything JDM including 90+ Integra XSi, Civic/CRX SiR, Civic SiR II.

-B16B - 96+ Civic Type R

The motor you need is just going to say B16A on it if you get a JDM engine. If you get a USDM engine, you could use a B16A3 out of a del Sol Vtec (94-95 only).

Hope this helps.

hmmm... if i was you i would get a ODB1 for a quick plug and play... but you can get a b16a2 and it wil fit and you need a obdII to ODB1 conver.... i got my b16a2 from hmotoronline.com and they take good care with there motors.... i got three from them and they dont have anything wrong with them... Some JDM motor that some people dont know has a blown valve and missing parts from the block...Cause my Friend had a JDM B16 and it had a bent valve...yea it sucked... but he sold the motor to some other guy that rebuilt it... so becareful for those JDM motors
