Hello, I have a 88 crx si. Basically I have bad tie rod ends so there is a very small amount of play in the steering. However when I brake it causes the whole front end of the car to kind of rattle and vibrate, it doesnt do that when im going slow.Im not sure if this could be because of warped rotors or Bad tie rod ends or both. If anyone can help that would be great.

Something spinning (rotor) would cause a vibration where you can feel the speed of the object spinning.

Something just rattling that doesn't spin (tie rod) would just be general noise and movement I guess.

If you are going 20 and put your foot on the brake while you are moving is the vibration slower then if you are doing 50 and do the same?

There are lots of things in the front end that rattle and vibrate. Have you jacked the car up to move things around?

Well Ive been reading alot on honda tech. Apparently it sounds like I got a bad Rack end Bushing. Im thinking about just dropping the whole F***ing steering rack and replacing all of that shit. EDIT:But yes it does vibrate and rattle faster when Im slowing down from faster speeds. I think it is bad rotors, in combination with bad bushings and such. Not sure, but Im going to pull it in and start taking it apart when I get home. I'm sure this would cost a couple hundred bucks to have done.

Well looks like I have to learn to rebuild a steering rack. Not to hard I mean If I can replace a timing belt(almost done) then I can get a steering rack rebuilt. This Rex Is amazingly less complex then my previous 89 nissan 240.(It was full of rust so replacing anything was a nightmare. Snapped bolt city! I love to keep it simple, no AC, manual steering and manual Accesories. Less shit to break later on down the road. Not to mention the Rex's Light and "Petite" physique. The amount of enthusists is by far the biggest plus though. Anything I want to know is right in the FORUMS! Just Search!

Just a bit of advice, granted you probably already know this. If your a DIY'er, its much harder to diagnose a problem amongst the presence of another problems in the same area. If you know your tie rods are bad ( which can give you a vibration when accelerating or breaking if the end play is too excessive ) Why not just replace those and then go from there.

Its not like you are misdiagnosing the issue either :)

Well I was thinking about replacing it all anyways. While I got the rack off anyways. Couldnt hurt right?
