I am thinking of getting a bike just to use to goto school and back. My round trip from school and back will be about 80-100 miles. I figure having a bike would be a hell of a lot cheaper gas wise then my car. Anyone have any suggestions? I do not want anything crazy, just something to get me to school that will be reliable. Any info would be great, thanks!

If your only reason in doing so is to save $$ on gas think again. The cost of the bike will take far longer to recoup than you're thinking.

Insurance for a bike is cheaper than for a car. Let me know if you're interested in a 2002 Honda VFR-800.

Really? I think obiviously having a bike would make me want to ride more. For what reasons would it be all that much more? I know insurance and the purchase of the bike, but I look at the purchasing more of an investment. From what i hear, bikes get far better gas mileage then cars. Having to do a 90 mile round trip 3-4 times a week..that adds up, especially having to do it for a solid year.

arent you only like 18? that means insurance is going to be way more.....

And with weather in colorado its hit or miss if you can ride it everyday.

Im 21 with clean record and as skater said i live in Cali, weather in San Diego is pretty consistant year round.

But as I asked before, what kind of bike would be my best bet? I dont want anything new, but something reliable and fun to ride.

Before you even get a bike you should consider taking an MSF class. you'll learn a lot from it an it might even save your life one day. I believe that people should graduate cc's to build up their skill level, then they won't find them selfs in trouble early on. You should start out on a cheap bike for a couple of months then get a bike that you like.
