I built an oil catch pan for an EG this week. Got a little more AL welding practice. Let me tell you what a challenge it is to make the EG chassis comply by the NHRA rule book. Sheesh...
The finished product, can hold about 2 gallons of fluid before it spills out the top. Weighs about 10 lbs total:

Hey, I recognize that car. :) Tobi, any idea what you might make another one of these for but for a newer Civic chassis? ;)

Only if you sign a waiver saying that you will only use it off road. :D
Looks pretty sturdy, nice job.

Thanks. I thought at first it would be pretty flimsy but when I closed up the last weld and put in the center support it stiffened right up. (that's what she said). ;)

Lol tell me about it. I spent a small fortune getting the chassis and safety equipment to get legal for 150+mph

And they want those classes to be for "everyman". what a joke. If you want to qualify in the top 4 in Sport you have to spend about $100k on the car now. Kind of reminds me of Hot Rod class back in the day.

In a national event, you definitely have to have a bankroll to be competitive in SFWD (unless everyone breaks lol). Pain in the arse
Personally, I have decided that once I cut a 9, that will be enough lol, no gt42r for me! If the 4088 won't cut it, a direct-port will fix that ;) Then off to build a turbo small block :D

Nice. I have the same attitude really. I dont want to spend $100K to go 9s and break all the time when I can spend $50k and go 8s all season long on a turbo V8 car.

Exactly!!! I'm thinking an 88 blazer will hide a minitub and a cage well, and still have some subs in the rear :D 9-second drag radial car FTW

I expect both of your resignations on my desk by the end of the day, that is all.

That looks pretty good. I am only assuming that the car is pulling some fairly high traps. If this is the case, I have an idea for you.
Turn the catch pan into a belly pan as well. Meaning, do what you can to make the bottom of the pan smooth and continue it out to the front and a little further back under the car. This way at the higher MPH you are reducing air turbulence on the undercarriage making the car more aerodynamic. Just thought I would mention that since you are allready most of the way there in doing just that anyways, with as large as that pan is.
It would only take maybe a few more lbs of aluminum to continue it out to the nose of the car and back to just past the firewall, and maybe a little wider also.

Wow 2gallon Oil Catch PAN! I only got a 600ml oil catch can.

Oh, I also didnt mean make the pan volume any larger. Just the skin on the bottom. That way it covers up more of the underside of the car.

correct me if i'm wrong, but i believe that the catch can that tobi build is to prevent any of the fluids from spilling onto the track if something breaks.
a oil catch can is for blow by

Thats the whole goal with any safety equipment. Spend a lot of money just in the hopes to never use it. Good Luck in Vegas my friend.
