TransAm w/ a bov sound??

I was out riding (motorcycle) lastnight at one of the spots and there were some cars street racing on the same road as us. This black TransAm raced once (got spanked by an older mustang btw :p) but had a weird (for a transam) sound coming from the engine bay. When he drove back past us it sounded like a sequential blow off valve, that chattering air sound like an HKS SSQ bov or the CART cars bov even. Can you turbo those things, or was it from a supercharger of some sort? Just thought it was kinda weird...

There is a guy in town with a turbo trans am. It isn't very fast, but it is turbocharged.
