Anyone Getting an iPhone Friday?
It would be killer device but the price is out of hand. For that money it should have 3G and no contract.

The iPhone is exactly what I hate about modern day phones.
When I shop for a phone, I look for one thing... a fucking phone.
I don't want a camera, I don't want an mp3 player, I don't want to text message or check my email or go online. I want to make and receive phone calls.
It's funny how far people go when they are loyal to a company. People were bitching and moaning about the PS3 being so much, but they are more than ok with paying that much for something that goes in their pocket?

You can still buy those. They're free with a two year contract. Just ignore the salesman and get it.

Last time I got a phone (about a year and a half ago or so) it was pretty hard to get one without a camera. They literally had maybe 3 phone to choose from, and they were all off to the side in the corner.

I agree, way too much price. Hell, I've already got internet (try Opera Mini, works for a bunch of diff phones), a camera, and mp3 on mine...a bigger screen and storage capacity isn't worth replacing the current phone by a longshot.

Whats going to happen when you drop it? Do they have the same support, are you going to get one in the mail and send back your old one?
chrisbarnett01
06-27-2007, 07:00 PM
I never paid for the insurance, so T-mobile never would have given me another phone anyways.
I just had an 8700 and I trashed it, and the best they could offer me was $350 for an 8800. I said fcuk that and bought the curve from AT&t, unlocked it, and then play with the blackberry.alx loader file to use a theme from some euro phone company(vodaphone or rogers or something).

Issues with it per an article I just read:
-Making a call can take as many as six steps
-Call quality is only average and depends on the strength of your AT&T signal
-There's no memory-card slot, no chat program, no voice dialing
-You can't install new programs from anyone but Apple; other companies can create only -iPhone-tailored miniprograms on the Web
-The browser can't handle Java or Flash, which deprives you of millions of Web video
-it can't capture video. And you can't send picture messages (called MMS) to other cell phones
-battery starts to lose capacity after 300 or 400 charges.
-text entry is not the iPhone's strong suit
If it had NONE of these problems I'd seriously consider getting one. My main motivation would be to piss off these 2 huge Mac guys I work with that have Verizon:)

Apple can suck a cock when i comes to phones and TV... they are losing it.
Iphone is a ripoff and they are only trying to capitalize off their success of the Ipod. Just like Microsoft was trying with the Zune.
With Mark's post about what it lacks. Those are heavy hitters for a phone. Text is a joke on th thing. I watched a demo of it and when asked about the Text messaging and MMS, the rep from Apple just said there is still some work to be done, WTF this was yesterday that it happened and the thing launches tomorrow... HAHAHA.
I love my ROKR E6... It will smoke th Iphone anyday of the week. It will be the greatest phone in the States if and when it comes to the states... I can play PSP quality games on it, has a regular SD card slot (no Mini or Micro). 2mp camera with video as long as the card will hold (I have an 8gb and I took video at 480x288 Standard 30fps and I took 72 minutes with 6gb left over. It also has 3rd party apps. Great mp3 not just itunes... Screw Itunes I do not even use it for my Ipod 80gb. It is slow. I have WMP on my ROKR as well as a really good MP4 and AAC player on it as well. Here is the best part my ROKR that is a touch screen 3G and edge phone with SD, 2mp camera, Quad band, PDA phone that is the size of a SLVR cost me only $250 and the 8gb car was $70. SO for $320 I got a way better phone then the Iphone... Fuck the Iphone. Besides I can play all that the iphone has and more with my 80gb Ipod 10x the space.

I'm with Dr. J. I use my phone to make phone calls, and I barely do that. It's mainly for emergencies.
But I'm glad people (read yuppies and teeny boppers) flip out for shit like this. It keeps technology progressing at an astounding rate. Soon I will be able to tune and datalog my megasquirt with a $99 multifuntion phone while it videotapes my runs at the track. :)

pretty much half of that information is not true, it cant mms, but it can email pictures, the reason being that mms doesnt support 2mp images
text entry is awkward at first but im starting to get used to it
-call quality seemed fine to me
-most batteries lose effectiveness after 300 or 400 charges regardless of the device (phones, ipods, laptops)
-apple has never supported expanded memory
-it has voice dialing, at&t offers it as a service
-making a call is super easy (one click), you must have misread it because you can make a call 6 different ways (webpage, email, contacts, call history, etc)

Good info... But MMS does support 2mp images if you want I will mms one to you Chris. I do it often with my ROKR E6. AT&T offers voice dialing at a service for how much $$$ as I have it for free as a feature of my unlocked $250 phone that is not even in america, that I can use on any GSM provider and not have to sign a 2 year agreement for a $500+ phone. Here is the great part about when my battery dies. I can get another one for $20 or cheaper. The Iphone battery will cost $75+ just for the battery and people will charger $40+ just for labor to change it. besides anymore 2-8gb of space is like a floppy back in the early to mid 90's. It just does not cut it. And their OS takes up almost a gig of the HDD space... So one last time for Apple. Suck my Ballz. Chris do not be a slave to the consumer blinder that apple is pulling over your head, the phone is averag at best and there are a hell of a lot phones out there that are way way way better. check out the SE K800i and K850i or the Moto ROKR E6, LG has a few that are sick as hell too including a 720p HD Video Camera Phone with a 5mp stills. Lets see Iphone do that, ohhh yeah the POS Iphone cannot even do video camera. It supports Java on the basis it is either a JAB or JAR file and has to be web-based loading you cannot load it from itunes or the bundled software so hope you are using the wifi.

Regarding MMS size, default is 30k in most phones, but can be changed to 100k or 300k sometimes.
Carriers limit the size to 300k.

was just checking the status on mine and a picture I just took at 2mp is 275k and my phone is set for 300k... I mms them to my mom, jamie and brother on tmo no problem. Just cannot mms them to people on AT&T
Because a majority of the populace are lemmings.

Most of them are going for about $100-200 over MSRP, not near the demand as the 360's were, which were going for 3-6 times MSRP

the iphone isnt the best phone ever, (well maybe in the US it is) but it is the "coolest" phone out right now. if you went to a bar and pulled out your phone and someone next to you pulled out an iphone no one is going to care that you can have dual sim cards or can send an mms, theyre going to want to see a phone with a swivel screen and built in ipod, nevermind the fact it cant do enterprise, goodlink, changing the sim card requires sending it in to apple for service and typing on it isnt practical. dont get me wrong, i hate this piece of crap phone with all of my passion but for entirely different reasons.
Did it touch you in your private places?

so the mad rush is over and were sold out... that was crazy, especially since it was first come first serve for both the customers and employees. I showed up and got in line for the Apple store at Flatirons at about 5:30 this afternoon. We estimated there were at least 150-200 people in front of us but by 6:30 I had an 8GB iPhone. They must have had hundreds in stock because a lot of people in front of us were coming out with two iPhones in hand. I would guess the 50+ people behind me got one too.
I felt bad for the people who showed up the night before or early that morning because the didn't have to. Ok, I don't feel bad.

Well after a few days, and finally having a phone that does more than make phone calls (literally, didn't even have a camera on my other), I am quite impressed and happy with mine.
I was a little skeptical of course, but it's really a great phone for someone like me. It might not be the flashiest or fullest in terms of capabilities, but it's great at what it does.
It is surprisingly useful to have the net anywhere you are, and that's not just for watching YouTube videos at lunch (though that is a big bonus)
Now it's just down to some of the long term issues like battery life and durability.
