I'm going to need an "on-site" cell phone in a month or two and I'm trying to figure out how I want to do this.

Ideally, I would like to have 2 phone numbers with 1 cell phone carrier. But I want them to go to one phone because carrying two phones would blow ass. I also would like to be able to send all calls straight to voicemail on the business number after 6pm for example while still receiving personal calls.

I'd also like to be able to see when someone is calling the personal number vs. the business number.

I was thinking I could just setup another land line in our office and have it automatically forward to my cell phone. That way I would always see business related calls from one number and could block it after hours. But I feel like this would be the telephone equivalent of video taping your TV screen instead of buying a DVR.

I know plenty of people who have to carry around 2 phones but I hate having shit in my pockets. Women have it easy with their purses. As soon as man bags become fashionable I am carrying one.

Anyway, whats the right way to do this?

I'm one of the "I carry my personal and work phones" people. I'd be interested in whatever solution you come up with, as I've not done any homework into having both numbers combined onto 1 device.

AFAIK you can only have one number assigned to one cell phone. If I were you, I would either get some cases and clip them to your belt, or leave your personal phone in the car and check it on a regular basis. Either that or call people back after work and leave the personal phone at home.

I manage all the Blackberry/Moto Qs for my company along regular cell phone orders when they come in and I'm pretty sure that this is impossible. If you have a CDMA service provider that doesn't use SIM cards, you can only have one number programmed into the phone at a time. Usually you have to hit some key combo to get the phone edit screen to come up and you manually enter in the phone number and the IMSI number.

The only thing that you could probably do would be have a GSM service provider like Cingular or T-Mobile and have two different SIM cards to put in the phone. You could only have one in at any given time, but you could pretty much swap on the fly and check messages.

You might check on howardforums.com, there may be a way to hack a sim card into having two #'s on it.

it is not impossible. you just need to get a Dual Sim Phone from Europe or Asia. FOr instance the Moto ROKR E6 I got the first time had a dual sim slot and I sent it back wanting the one with single so that it had the better speaker and camera.

I posted a thread on there last night at the same time and not a single person replied.

It sounds like I'll have to be packing multiple phones.

It seems like this is a pretty common issue and the first carrier to address it will get get a lot business.

Call forwarding while you are at work then end it when you go home. Then just deal with the other crap as it comes along throughout the day.

This could be an option:

http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/roam-around-the-world/sprint-launches-blackberry-8830-world-phone-with-unlocked-sim-slot-for-voice-and-data-273127.php

Sprint phone that also uses SIM cards for use with another carrier.

Yeah that might be something I'll try.
The only problem is that I wouldnt be able to distinguish between who is calling which number. Also it would probably void the warranty of any phone. They're cheap from China, I'd be worried about putting one in a nice phone.

I think I'll have to just go with 2 separate phones in the end.

Ahh sweet, then it might the final solution.

It wont be needing the "on site" phone probably until September. Someone who is using 2 phones now should try it out before then to see if it works :)
Jon, no? Only $6 shipped - http://cgi.ebay.com/2-In-1-GSM-Dual-Twin-SIM-Card-Adapter-for-ALL-Phon_W0QQitemZ200121886608QQihZ010QQcategoryZ48501 QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I would go with something like this:

But last time I bought an overseas phone, the ATT internet network wasnt compatible and I ended being fucked and just had to buy another phone.
