I heard on the radio today that cops are watching cars crossing the border from Wyoming and checking for fireworks when they pull people over. However, I've gone up there a couple of times in the past few years and don't remember seeing a bunch of cops waiting as I crossed into Colorado.

I'm sure if you go up there on July 3rd, there might be more cops then usual, but highly unlikely right now

Just go out of the way a little bit and take 85 instead of I-25. They are never out there and nothing but miles and miles of farm road if someone is going to follow you. :p

we went a few years ago in June and we didn't get hassled....
There's no where for us to set off the fireworks legally so we're not gonna get any this year.

Psh, If you guys wanna get fireworks, just head up, get them, then actually come INTO cheyenne, we'll all get lunch ( I live in this horrible place ) and then get back. No hassles by cops.

If they do pull you over and somehow have a warrant to look in your car, tell them you are going out of state! What are they gonna do? call you a liar?

As long as they don't have probable cause (ie seeing fireworks inside your car through your window, or other suspicious activity / circumstances), then they can't search your car without your permission. The 4th ammendment guarantees you protection from unreasonable search and seizure. Of course, if you give them a suspicious story, or can't give them a straight or consistent story, then you're probably going to get searched.
