View Full Version : Very, very unique title/registration question

So, I am about to buy a certain car. This car, is brand fucking new. Has under 1k Miles on it, and am getting it for a ridiculously good price. The situation is, the car has no title, and has never been registered anywhere, ever.

Why?

The car was given to a race team for promotional and testing purposes by the manufacturer. The team now no longer has a use for the car, and the manufacturer says it's theirs.

A carfax shows absolutely nothing, at all. 0 entries.

I've done some background research, and the team is legit and does work with said manufacturer. The vehicle at the moment is full race, no interior installed, roll cage, harnesses. The entire car's interior including dash pieces and roof liner are still in little packages.

I'm really, really concerned this will turn out to be a nightmare to register, but you can always hope right?

edit: a customer said something about claiming it as abandoned, then registering it? confused?

edit2: Stu/Other Insurance peoples, how insane would it be to get it insured?

It would probably be best for you to just go to the DMV and get your answer straight from them instead of reading a bunch of BS on here.

lady was getting kind of agitated with me, so i left, but will probably give them a call Monday.

I would be more concerned with the contract this team has with the manufacturer.

It will go into detail about specifics of selling the car.

And don't be fooled, in order to get a car from a manufacturer, there are pretty much industry standard contracts you have to sign.
