View Full Version : Sheep hitter.
So one of our insureds drove into a flock of sheep that was being herded across the road. 14 sheep had to be put down. Usually an animal collision isn't an at fault accident....but how the hell do you not see an entire flock of sheep? It'd be impressive to hit and kill 14 squirrels, let alone 14 sheep. What a silly billy driver.
Maybe he was receiving road head.

Where would one be driving that there is a flock of sheep in the road?
Ryan's barn/surrounding area.
Pun intended.
Idaho, where a sheep herder is herding a flock of sheep across a road that runs through their property.
Our director is trying to tell us that it will most likely be the sheep herder's fault. I can't see how you can possibly miss an entire flock of sheep though, it's like hitting a parked car.

It's not that surprising... most people are barely conscious while driving.
I'm glad you are speaking for yourself and noone else...

If the road was going uphill then leveled out and the driver is going like 45-55pmh, I'm sure it's pretty easy.
I would love to see a photo though
It must have been the sheep herders first day then. That's what our director said, "What if the guy was crossing the sheep just over a hill? or around a bend?"
Then that sheep herder should be fucking fired. Also, if the herd is large enough that it extends over both sides of the highway, that is the equivalent of a stationary object (like a parked car) that would (in most cases) put the driver at fault. Our director also said some shit like, "The sheep could have blended in with the pavement, who knows?"
Seriously? We're talking about an entire flock of sheep here. Even if every single sheep was Asphalt colored, you wouldn't miss a whole flock. Even if there were only 14 sheep in the entire "flock" and the driver hit every single one of them, there is still no way they could have missed them.

Maybe they have white fluffy asphalt?
I suggested that the driver thought he was driving into fog. "Hey kids! Look at that really, really low cloud we're about to drive through! Why is that guy on the horse whipping the cloud across the road?"

Maybe it was a common occurance of them crossing the road and the guy was tired of them crossing the road and having to wait so he decided to just start taking them out.

Maybe he fell asleep trying to count them?

Well if he hit 14 sheep in one run, they must have been positioned horribly (for the sheep). I mean it sounds like the sheep herder tried to carry them across the road horizontally as in parallel to the road. If he did that then the driver could have very well only seen a couple of sheep and when he hit them it was like dominoes... dominoes that were hit by a car.

can you get us some photos?
Nah, I really doubt there will be any. It's not my claim anyway. I'm sure we will get photos of the truck though.

I also suggested that. :)
But it's not like the sheep are ten feet tall and the driver couldn't see over them, like running into trees or something. Even if someone stacked a bunch of bathroom doors on a road, you'd still be able to tell if there were 14 of them. Unless each door was smaller than the one before it.

I disagree, a couple degree slope in the road and he could have easily only seen 2-3 sheep.
I see what you are saying, but the point is, even if you see only one animal, you still shouldn't be traveling fast enough to kill 14 of them by the time you get to said animal. This is of course because I'm assuming that the herder wasn't a total assclown. You never know though. We're all anxiously waiting the driver's statement.
