yeah. I live in apartments, so they broke into a storage unit next to my garage, and used a saw to cut through the wall.

I'll keep an eye out for you. I'm in the general area as you. Like everyone else said, sounds like an inside job. How else would they have known about all those parts and your car just being finished up (like you said in the other thread).

What I was thinking. It seems someone you know was counting down the time that you got the Teg running as well as you.

Fuck man, I really feel for you.

Possible fingerprints?

Street_Kings
06-15-2007, 12:52 PM
i'll post some pics, it' was definately someone that lived in these appartments, or are very, very, very familiar with them. They cut a single hole, exactly under the garage door opener from the other side of the wall.

nobody even came down.

Has anyone ever drove by that looked suspicious? Ever...? I'd say if you know anyone with modded car(s) in the complex, better go around knockin' some doors down.

Yup. Cops are the same the world over. Incompetant, glorified tax collectors. They give you weird looks when you call for help, then get pissed when you don't call for help.

I am willing to bet they left a fingerprint. It was hot yesterday.

Sounds like a lot of these thefts are happening up North. I watch mine like a hawk everday/do the alarm, etc; and just hope it's gonna be there when I get back.

Unfortunately, it's the politicians that decide what police and prosecutor priorities are, so you end up with them spending a disproportionate amount of their time and resources on politcally important things, and little to none on property crimes (unless it makes the news).

But the cops treating the poeple like absolute shit, looking down their noses at everyone, and just being a plain old dickhead is all their own. They must be proud that they got that service so consistant.

I am 1000000000% sure it's an inside job with someone in maintenance or someone very, very, very, very familiar with my apartments. they definitely live or work here.

Check this out.

This is how they entered. My garage on the right, and the closet on the left.
http://milehighnightlife.com/car/garageandcloset.jpg

1) They went through my garage wall, by going into a closet that's in use by some really old guy. The lock is completely unmarred, so they didn't bump or pick it. The door is in tact too so it wasn't pried open.

http://milehighnightlife.com/car/noforced.jpg
http://milehighnightlife.com/car/lockintact.jpg

2) Not only that, they cut a single hole from inside the closet (pic 1/2). The hole happened to be perfectly below the garage door opener (inside garage view pics 3/4), and they did no damage to anything else at all. the fucking lightswitch even works still.

So they knew exactly where to break through the wall to hit the opener. I'd say look into hiring a P.I. or something similar.

Talk to the guy that owns that closet and see if he has a son nephew or who has access to that place. Do the same with the manager of the place. Tell him that some used a key to get in and you want to know who has access to the spare keys.

06-15-2007, 01:50 PM
That freaking sucks man. Yeah, you need to check around, mainly who had the keys and copies of the keys. I'm not that suprised with the hole on the wall, all they would have to do is follow the DC line down to your garage opener, so that isn't very shocking. But the key thing, that's a big deal.

Good gawd man my heart dropped when I read the thread. I cant get into your other thread due to the curse word in the title damn firewall at work! But I couldnt imagine man I have been dreaming of a ITR front for gawd knows how long and to have some gawdless dickless wasate of flesh take it is unthinkable. Man I feel for you!

I will keep an eye out up north Loveland, Fort Collins you never know they might head up this way to get out of the city. But that car cant be hard to spot and with the job that was done stealing it I am sure they are very carefull and have it enclosed somewhere. I would call near by storage places and see if any spots big enough for a car or that allow a car to stored have been rented out recently. Also bring pics of the car to the storage places and ask the managers they usually watch the place closely.

Once again man I am so sorry for your loss and I hope for the best for you man!

I dont have much but I will pitch in a little for a reward leading to the cars recovery!!

UPDATE:

American Family is claiming that they do not cover any automotive parts in the garage. As they were not on the vehicle at the time, they are not covered by my automotive policy either. In addition to that, my insurance has a $1K cap on aftermarket parts on an insured vehicle (which my agent blatantly lied about, btw) so all in all, for my loss of the car plus 6K+ of documented, reciepted parts, i am most likely getting bluebook +1K -500 deductible.

I suddenly hate my life.

car insurance is as bad as the theives, they have no problem taking the money and heaven forbid that you happen to be a day late, and when somthing happens (especially involing aftermarket parts)they basically tell you to fuck yourself.
sorry for the loss, definatly sounds like someone knew something, how were they going to know you had all that laying around? how did they know that the garage next to you was empty?? i'd be checkin some foo's

If you have renters insurance that will cover the after market parts in the garage.

just got off the phone with them and they're not.

copy of the exclusions he faxed to me said:

"Land motor vehicles or motor propelled vehicles or machines, whether assembled or unassembled, including their equipment and accessories."

They're deeming them part of the car, unassembled and other parts as accessories.

yeah, i'm highly doubting they'll ever find my car, and if they do, obviously these guys wanted it bad enough to cut through my fucking wall to get it so most likely it will be fucking toast.

I'm absolutely not buying another integra or civic, though, i'd like to keep the next car, that would be kinda nice =X

M@
06-16-2007, 01:20 PM
Good idea, man. I'm actually tempted from seeing this happen to sell my car and pick up a 4x4. Import drag racing is slowly dying and you can't even drive your car anymore without worrying about it being gone the two seconds that you walk into the gas station to buy a Red Bull.

At least with a 4x4 you really don't have to worry about that... I guess. :-\ Fucking gay that it has to be like that, though.

What is it with Westy and all the break ins and stolen cars? I have seen many posts lately about peoples cars being stolen on more than just this board. I bet the same jerks are taking all these cars/parts. Its a shame that the cops are not doing more to help people. What if it was a squad car? it would be all over the news. If a police officer had someone mess with thier car you know they would check the whole thing for prints. I would try and get prints from something in your Garage. If you could lift one print form there that is from the asshole who pulled this off, that is worth having it checked at the police station. And it would lead you one step closer to getting your parts or getting restitution. I hope you find who did this and get some street justice out of thier ass. Word.

Yeah you do, jeep thefts/stripping is pretty bad nowadays, especially since it has gotten more popular in recent years.

Winches also get stolen like hotcakes. We had one taken several years ago, and the thieves literally timed it perfectly to where they were not caught on the rotating camera.

Also to the original poster, WOW that sucks worse than I thought. Where was the car when it was taken?

stu
06-19-2007, 02:37 PM
I've been over this with him behind the scenes.

Renters and Home owners insurance DOES NOT cover car parts. If you want parts for your car covered, they need to be installed on the car, with the extra endorsement.

I didn't know about this myself. I think it's kind of a shitty loop hole written into the policies.

Also, insurance companies don't write their own policies, they are all ISO forms written by the Insurance Service Office. This is how they keep the playing field level, so all insurance companies are covering the same things. Individual insurance companies do get to choose their own endorsements though. For example, if you get 1,000 cds stolen from your car, your Allied Homeowner's policy will only cover up to $300.00. Nationwide on the other hand has no limit.

I used to be an Amfam agent....I always told my customers w/ mods, stereos, wheels, etc. to add the Customized Vehicle Coverage. I can't stress enough to people (especially now that I see so much of this crap happening) to MAKE 100% SURE that your mods are covered!!! Plus, you better make sure you have receipts & photos to back it up. Take 5 minutes and talk to your agent. If they blow you off, ask them to find it in the policy for you or have a claims adjuster find it for you.

The "car parts not attached" but in the garage are not covered. Yes, it's a total B.S. clause and that's one of the many reasons I left them.

Sorry you're having to deal w/ all this crap Street King :(
