I don't know if any of you guys know, but for about 4-5 oil changes now, I've been using the RSX oil filter. I don't have any numbers, but it increases the oil pressure on B-Series motors.
Thought I would share---
Chris
Cool, how does it do that? Is increased oil pressure a good thing?

It's similar to the JDM Honda HAMP oil filter upgrade-- it flows better aparently, Spoon sports uses them on all of their circuit racing cars. Sucks that HAMP filters are $20.00 a shot normally, or you could just buy the same filter (RSX) and call it a day.

Its a smaller filter, a regular filter does not clear on an RSX so they went with a higher flow, smaller filter cartridge for the new civic and the RSX. It also has quicker, larger diameter pressure release valve built in. THe new i-VTEC motors rely on oil pressure alot more to control vtc and vtec operations so more pressure and flow is neccesary.

hmm, I suppose that would work pretty good on my D16 yesh?

But does increased oil pressure actually help you on a Honda engine that wasn't meant for it?
I just think there's got to be a downside, otherwise they would have done it on all of their engines.

Won't this push more oil than is necessary to the turbo though AcuraBro? I guess you could make your feed line smaller. Or is that even an issue?
Justin
umm i think it would be better for the turbo to see more oil.

Do most hondas use hydrolic lifters? If so then the higher pressure would help with that. Besides that a faster return means that you can filter more effectively because your cycle time is reduced. I looked at that company CM filter's website and they actually make a screw-on filter for my sister's 85 golf(part 25.260). It also says that they make them for civic, passport, odyssey, crv. The civic number is 25-280 and they are $90 for the filter and housing and then $12 for replacement elements after that. Not too bad. Asuming it filters better and lasts years!
Boy Lucas, you sure do like reviving old threads huh? J/K.

EVERY thread in the FWD forum is old.
Dude, stu, you need to grow an afro and wear it around all the time. I was expecting to see you with one last night and i was distraught when you did not have one :(
I learned how to save money by shaving my own head.

You don't have to get your hair cut if you have a 'fro, it is just as cheap. Come-on, haven't you ever seen a rap video, all you need is a hair pic, and you can even leave them in your hair all the time!
Sorry, I really try not to create excess amounts of shade around my immediate person. I also don't want squirells and birds nesting in my head. Rabbits would be okay, I like rabbits.

Anyways, i tried out the oil filter and it did increase the oil pressure and it helped VTEC kick a lil harder too. I couldnt believe it was almost half the size of the original PH3593A meant for the GSR. The number for the 02-03 RSX-S FRAM oil filter is PH7317 BTW.

Cool, thanks for the part numbers!
My only concern now is that with more oil pressure, I'll get more blowby and more oil in the catchcan, and will therefore be adding more oil to the crankcase more often. Can anyone confirm or deny this assumption?

I would only think it would be better for the motor than worse. My friend nick also put the RSX filter on his ZC motor (D series) and since he put that on and changed the oil, it seemed like it helped it out a lil more.
i haven't had any problems with the rsx filter yet i been using it for the last 4 oil changes.

i wouldn't imagine flowing more oil through the engine would cause more loss.
I've never had to add oil in between oil changes. A catch can would be a nice stocking stuffer for Christmas.:D

kind of. more pressure though, no.
That's why you use a smaller feed line then return. Too much pressure will blow out the seals and cause the turbo to leak.
it's funny seeing this thread again....
heh
hmm the feed and return line are about the same size on my greddy kit...

from what I've seen the returns are usually big like -6,-8an while the feed line is closer to -4an.
maybe that's just the cars i've seen.
