Hello all. Just wanted to introduce myself.

I own a 2002 Elantra GLS and a 2001 Grand Am GT.

I have altered my 2002 GLS Elantra by removing the 2nd cat, intake resonator and PCV bypass. The Elantra is a modified Tiburon platform and weigs about 26lbs more according to published curb weights.

I used to own a 2000 Black Pontiac Grand Prix GTP coupe, it was a factory freak that dynoed 256HP and 327 Ft.Lbs (crank) at Dyno pro off of 52 and sheridan. 3 pulls all within 3HP. I owned the car 47 days because I got t-boned by a speeding minivan and she was destroyed.

Anyway, couldn't find another GTP used and I needed wheels ASAP and I needed practical cause I drive from Lakewood to Boulder daily. So I bought a 2002 GLS ELantra on 2/2/2002. My wife drives a 2001 Black Grand Am GT sedan.

I hope to share and gain some valuable info from you all.

Can you tell the difference after the thing that you did to your Elantra? Could you still pass emissions?

Well that's exactly what this board is about. I've learned so much since I started posting here. Welcome!

Yes, significant difference.

My neighbor also has a 2001 Grand Am GT. My elantra used to be slower than my Grand Am and my neighbor's identically modded Grand Am. Now, even with people loaded in the Elantra and him by himself in the Grand Am, I can take him all the way to my 115mph limiter. I think it was removing the second cat that really did it.

It will pass emissions without the second cat (gutted) however, I will have to reverse the PCV bypass, it's easily reversed, just some a matter of moving hoses. Instead of letting it vent in a catch can, I will hook it back up to the intake and manifold. However I don't have to worry about emissions for 4 years since I bought the car brand new.

Welcome. My fiancee has a 2000 Elantra, and it's as slow as my car was stock. Then I got header and exhaust and would give her a good second head start and then go rolling by her at the top of 2nd. Heh, its been bad luck and we're looking to get her another car here very soon, but it definetely won't be korean :smashfrea

Who's white VR6 is that? You mean that slow one with the ZEX nitrous? Dude, I dunno, but he should have been pulling better times then that, even tho it was only a 12 valve.

I would, but it's ultimately her choice. If I can find a cheap Z28 older body style (as in 2nd to last gen) with low miles, I think she'd be very happy with that... She's always wanted one for some reason... Watch my car rape it, hehehehhehe:rofl:

The 2000's were better than before, but they were not built the same as they are now for 2001 or 2002. There have been many changes to from the previous gen Tib. and Elantra. MAP instead of MAF, chassis is more rigid and has different apperance, transmission is different, suspension is different, ECU is different, it's not the same car. Haven't had any issues with mine yet and I've managed to pound 22K miles on it since February.

New Tiburon has an available V6 now.

From what I've read, the new Tiburon looks a lot more appealing than it did before.
