I am getting so stoked. I am going in as an E3 in early September. I scored an 82 on the ASVAB so I can basicly do what ever I want. I am looking forward to it and will be seeing if you can put a bumper on something a little faster.

I am not going to argue the point on going into any service.... but the one that you will have the least success with will be the Air Force.

He may have gotten a high asvab... but right now... the Air Force is "force shaping" 90 percent of the career fields. Pretty much looking for reasons to kick people out too. We had a guy near us who is getting kicked out because he didnt get back from leave on time this winter... came back a day late.

My guess is the only job they are going to except tonnerre in is security forces.. (military police)

The Air Force has gone so much to contracting they realize that they cant have the numbers they used to have.

I love hearing the reasons though.... why would the Marines be your last choice Chris?

Have any college under your belt Tonnerre?

Did your recruiter give you the PFT already?

Why is that?

For the reasons above...

I didnt say that as a insult or a snap at tonnerre...

I work with the air force all day. There is no comraderie which you find in the other services.. The air force is run like a cut throat business. "If I can step on you to get promoted I will" -that is the mentality here.

All the worthwhile jobs are filled. I highly doubt he would get anything of merit.

Open contract FTL!

That's alright though. He'll fit right on in as an SP!

EDIT: Wait... they're armed. This is bad!

For one of the questions that some one asked. I got 54 Credits. I also want to be a Linguist, and i scored high enough to do that. I could physically be a Pararescue. That is stuff I like to do anyways. But it will be a nice change and I will not be broke anymore.

Think of the military as college somewhat, find something that you'd like to do when/if you get out. It may not be EXACTLY what you want to do, but find something that is utilized in the civilian world if you can.

That may be the way to go for some people, but I for one would never go into the Infantry if I was going to use the military as a way to start a career, this is why. What are you going to do when you get out (if you go Infantry), only real option is using your school money to get a degree, or make a career out of the military (not for me). If you have the opportunity to do something non-infantry, I say do it, that way when you get out you have 4 years of experience, and if you are smart you will take some core classes while in the military. The military is what you make of it!!

Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with going infantry, in my opinion they won all wars we have had. Much respect to the guys who choose to go that route.

Good luck with what ever you choose to do T, no matter how much of a tool you came off as on here, I think you are making a good decision going into the armed forces.

You obviously don't know the military pay scale. You won't be "completely" broke but you won't have much either.

I think that I am going to have to play the bullshit card. The best you can do on the airforce ASVAB is a 99 and for the record, the avrage is a 51. So STFU. if you got a 99 on the army, I did a lot better then you. army goes to 200 dumbass.

My brother went in the Navy as a E3. After you buy all the clothes, deduct food and the gi fund. You wont have anything left. Plus spending off base because you cant stand it on base.

My brother just got Honorably Discharged from the Navy because of asthma, and he doesnt have shit after 8 months of being in the service except a bunch of useless clothes.

and Tonnerre, those test are setup so you can get in unless you are a actual retard.

The ASVAB is handed down to every recruit the same, regardless of what branch you choose.

The Standard score can go up as high as 320. The AFQT (Armed Forces Qualification Test) score is a percentile and only gets as high as 99. They only compile 4 of the test scores for this number. This is the number that tells them what you're qualified to do. They will also look at individual line scores if you're trying for certain fields... such as Nuclear.

As for going Pararescue... you'd better be ready to have your ass handed to you. Those PJs are some of the baddest ass motherF*rz there are in special forces. PLUS... you won't have much of a life w/ all the training you'll be doing.

As for the pay, if you wanna HAVE cash. I suggest you live ON BASE and and use the meal card!

You'll more than likely end up with a 2nd job.

For one you are the idiot because all the services take the same asvab... and then depending on jobs you take auxilary tests... And I also got a 99... Its not saying you got a 99 percent. Its you have all the required knowledge to fulfill the basic needs... I had to take an electrical, mathmatical, and mechanical test after the asvab.

And you Sir are the dumbass... I had a job 10 min after I took the asvab.

I hope you have already guaranteed your job in writing. If you go in open, I'll take my eggs over easy, thanks. AF is the way to go, if you don't wanna deal with all the "military" crap, but want all the benefits.

Oh, and coming back from leave late, is called being AWOL. Serious business. It's not like showing up to work 5 minutes late.

Have some college and you can walk in with 2 stripes after Basic Training.

In less than 2 years make Sr Airman. In less than 4 years be a Staff Sergeant, and have a college degree completed... and apply for Officer Training School (OTS).

Make a plan. Stick to it too!

The Air Force is an experience that isn't for everyone. If you are up for a challenge and want to get involved in things that will impact your life for years to come go for it. I retired in December 2000 and it was the experience of a lifetime. I went from sleeping in muddy foxholes, eating C-rations, and hugging an M-16, to participating in our nation's space program at Cape Canaveral. I got to see some fantastic places, and some not so fantastic ones... I lived thru it and you'll probably live thru it too. :)
