Allright. I have a wierd noise coming from the tranny/clutch area. I just replaced my clutch about 12K miles ago so i dont think that's the problem. Anyways, when in neutral and the clutch is out, the noise is there and quite loud. When i push the clutch in, it goes away. When it's in gear(ie:1st) and the clutch is in, the noise is gone, when i let out on the clutch to take off, there's the noise again. It almost sounds like a supercharger noise but it has something to do with the tranny. Has anyone ever had this problem before? Sorry so long, i was just trying to make sense as much as possible.
Thanks
Bryan
I had a sound that would come on in the same situations. Everyone I knew (even mechanics) were like, "Yep, that's the throwout bearing." So, I put in the clutch that had sitting in my basement for a year, and ordered a ClutchMasters aluminum flywheel to go with it. Only to find out that it was the bearings in the transmission. I think that is what you are hearing now. Good luck getting it fixed. Mine still wasn't fixed when the car got totaled. Remember to not go to All Japanese.

It "COULD" be the throw out bearing or the other common failure for your trans is the front input shaft bearing. you could save yourself the headache and do both at the same time. Problem is for the input shaft bearing the trans has to be completly disassembled.

have you tryed adjusting the pedal? maybe its not full disengageing. we had this problem on a friends car. his old clutch was worn down and we had to keep adjusting the pedal so it would wrok proplerly til the new one was installed.
But he just got a new clutch not to long ago, I think that it is the mainshaft bearing like FULLTHROTTLE said. Also beware, there is some part that is known to go bad in the tranny, I don't remember what it is, but the guy said the dealers go through them like water and were on a national backorder. I thik it was the reverse synchro or something.

So do you think it would just be worth it to get another tranny? I found a 2000 GSR tranny with 35K miles on it for $850. I was just thinkin about gettin that. I really didnt wanna have to replace my tranny but oh well. I bought my car with 86K miles on it back in april and the clutch went out at 87K miles (which sucked) and now im at about 101K miles and my tranny is making noises. I just dont know if im down to throw a grip of more money into this car anymore. i think im gonna look towards a 2000 Si. :)
Make sure that it is perfect, then BUY IT!!!!!! I was spending $1295 to get mine rebuilt, and they were even doing a seriously shitty job. You found an awsome deal. Who did you find that from.
