Well now, Boulder is becoming one of those places I hate driving around. Seems to be a lot of photo radar cops making big bucks. Anyways, is putting on a reflective plate illegal in CO?
The reflective cover (from what I've read) is illegal everywhere. Whether or not you'll get hassled for it is another story.
I was told when I lived in Boulder, and when I got pulled over in the mountains that basically ANY cover is illigal because dirt can get on it which covers the plate. In the mountains I had a clear cover and there was snow on it, it doesn't make much difference because the snow would have been on the plate but that is what they said.
Whether or not that is true I don't know. They normally don't bug you about it but they could use it against you if they were looking for things to point out.
The blurred one is probably targeted if they see it, they make it a reason to pull you over.

get the uber-reflective clear coat spray paint.. I forget what its called but nobody can tell its on there until they take a pix with flash, then the plate is over-exposed and unreadable.

there's a photo resistant spray that i saw a while back (about 9 bucks a spray can), its totally clear and you can't even tell its on there, until a flash goes off, then it totally whites out the picture of your plate. if they really want to put effort into getting you though, they can usually gather the plate number off the rises of the number & letter indents, but if you have one of those cool flat print plates, you're good to go.
edit: ^ beat me to it!
This isn't a half bad idea for those stupid roadside emissions testers.

Shame on them for trying to catch people speeding and/or running red lights.

The spray works but you have to reapply it frequently.

Yeah, I got a ticket for having covers on the 4Runner. They were just lightly tinted covers, but whatever.

How long does the spray last? I was looking at it online and it says 4 coates is supposed to last a while. I'm sure that's not the case.

i think its reflective abilities deteriorate after time, its probably dependent on how often the plate is in direct sunlight on how long it lasts.. its a big can and you have a small plate.. the spray should coat that plate dozens of times..
best way to find out is spray it and take a pix w/flash... then a month or two later take another pix and compare it to the first one and see if its still performing the same..

The spray is the only thing that seems to work, but dirt and wear would weaken it's performance, plus you just know that they're just going to develop better cameras that can read the plate anyway.
Shame on them for trying to catch people speeding and/or running red lights.
I'd prefer that they used real police for such things. Automated enforcement has many problems, and is easily defeated in many cases. It's also more about making money than it is about promoting traffic safety.

I drive a 4Runner now so I don't have to worry about it anymore. :)
I've got clear, protective covers front and back, and have never been hassled.

"You simply press the button and the license plate flips down at a 90 degree angle James Bond style. Designed in Sweden to keep snow and mud off of license plates, Foxplate also keeps your license plate clean for those speed, toll and red light cameras. Its also cool for other uses. Just put a sign behind it to say Hi! or a SOS to get help. Foxplate is a great gift item and practical for all sorts of uses. "

The photo tickets not only take a picture of your license plate, but also a picture of you (the driver) and your VIN # in the bottom left of your windshield.

I heard they also use xray to read your drivers license number in your wallet (or purse for M@)
