Hey is it just me, or is the shit these guys are saying in their f.a.q. section, totally against everything I ever learned about turbos and superchargers?

Everybody go here and read this:

http://www.turbodrivenconcepts.com/faq.html

Pay close attention to the part about turbo lag.

This one cracks me up:

Turbos also start to generate their power at lower RPMs. The increased power level from a turbo system is achieved at a wider range of RPMs than superchargers,

And this one's good too:

Can my engine blow up?

Unlike superchargers, turbos do not require the engine to work harder to produce additional horsepower. Turbos use the exhaust gases energy to propel them.

While he's not wrong, I fail to see what that has to do with blowing your engine...

The average life expectancy of a turbocharger is in excess of 100,000 miles.

Try telling that to the DSM crowd... :)

i know what you are saying Pat, but turbos produce torque at very low rpms. the 1.8t's hit peak torque at 1800 rpm. could that be what they are talking about?

uhh, most GARRETT turbos will go well over 100,000 miles. mitsu turbos are just plain shit.

this statement is 100% true. although it has nothing to do with the question asked. of course you can blow your engine, more so with a turbo.

yeah, that guy doesn't really know what he's talking about. Probably some ricer who got his info from www.civicland.com or something and decided to create a webpage,

Maybe, but it still doesn't have a broader powerband unless he's only reffering to centrifugal blowers. Than it's true.

Small turbos like the one on the 1.8T spool early but are pretty much running out of steam at 5000rpm, big turbos spool later and never run out of steam (at least in the rpm range of a normal car).

Exactly. :)

I personally wouldnt buy anything from them.

oh i understand, the car may have peak torque at 1800rpm but you damn sure cant feel it!

Heck yeah. Those K03s are TINY!!! What size piping is on the inlet of that thing, a 1.25" ID??

Guys, you have to keep in mind that this company makes turbo kits for V8 Mustangs. Their FAQ is written for prospecitive customers. In the Mustang world 98% of the supercharger are centrifugal and lag doesn't exist on a V8 with the turbos they use on their street kit.

They are using the T3/T4 hybrids on their big kits. I thought those didn't reach full boost until like 4200rpm or something.

Stu, depends on what engine you're using them on-- it will spool up quicker if the turbo gets more exhaust heat/engergy. On my 10:1 CR GS-R turbo set-up, the turbo spooled around 4000rpm, but since I dropped the CR down to 8.5:1, my T3/T04E spools at around 5100rpm, but again this is to get up to a full 13psi, whereas before it only had to spool to 7psi.

AcuraBro: That sounds about right. These guys are selling these kits for V8 Stangs, and I could see it spooling up fast for the single turbo kit, but not for the Twin kits.

I think you stil have lag regardless. I mean a smaller turbo makes less lag as compared to a larger turbo, but its just that you don't feel it in the V8's because their massive low-end torques. So by the time it kicks in it feels transitional.
