Is it best to go through dealerships for financing a bike, when purchasing from them? Or would it be better to go straight to a credit union? How did you do it?

From what I understand, Credit Unions are always better.

Are you worried about your credit getting pulled?

When I got mine the dealer got pretty good financing since they work with multiple creditors at a time. If you go with a CU you are looking at one place's offer.

Maybe someone who knows dealerships can answer, does the dealership pull credit and then pass the info along or does each potential creditor pull credit?

I think it depends on what you're looking for. I know Kawasaki had some sweet financing deals if you qualify. Something like 100/month for any bike up to $10k. However, you really need to make sure the bike is paid off within 2 years otherwise you get screwed. So if you got alot of cash flow, you can pick it up and just pay that bitch off asap.

If you have the ability to pay it off quick, then sometimes they have special options with the manufacturers credit cards. However, most of the time, the credit union has the better rates when it comes to financing. Plus, if you walk in with a credit union financing already approved, the dealership will ask what APR you got, and if they can beat it, they will. The finance guys have been around for a while so they should know pretty instantly if they can or not.

Also, if its your first bike, have you thought about just saving up and paying cash for a cheap bike? Maybe an older f3 or something. That way if you dump it, you arent losing that much.

I will have the ability to pay the bike off within the year definitely, I just wonder what the early-pay off charges are with these Manufacturer Credit Cards and such. Honda, Yamaha, and Kawasaki are all offering similar options. Went to Fay Mayers today and will get the report back for my credit app tomorrow, going to head to Grand Prix Motorsports to see how the R6 feels. I'm just playing around with my options right now, I may end up putting this money towards a TSX or S2k, might go to a house. Not too sure, keeping my options open at this point just wanted to get some feedback from you guys who have financed death-on-wheels. :)

Definitely. I sat on an older CBR600, as well as a Gixxer 600 too. Both of them were under $4k, and not too bad of shape either. :)

Just get pre approval with the CU; they can probably do it over the phone. Then you can see what the dealership has to offer. Many of the dealerships can word direct with credit unions too.

Owning your own house can't be beat though. That's where my 350Z down payment went.

a credit union for sure... if you can pay it under 6 months get one of those credit cards that you have 0 apr for the first six months...I would just pay it off since you get charged up the butt if you finance...

If you can pay it off within a year you should save your money until then. Put whatever you have now into a 9 month C/D and make yourself 5% rather than paying that 11% or whatever you'll blow on this year.

For every loan I've checked with the credit union always came out better. I dont know anything about bikes but occasionally auto manufacturers with their own financing branches have some badass incentives. GMAC had some good deals when I got my G6.

I know auto places will fuck you over too... the dealer told my mom that they would find her the cheapest apr... she wanted to do bellco... so they got her the loan for her car... she goes to bellco and they have a lower rate than the one she got... when she found out she was hella pissed...

The only time a dealership can really help you out with financing is when you have awful credit. Otherwise they're just taking a point or two above whatever the available rate is.

LOLL... Power commander III +1. I know some place in town thats letting them go for like 210. I wouldn't trust that chip from ebay...

For conrad... Is so much better to take the class, it even taught some stuff to people that have been riding bikes for a while.
