This is sort of a followup to the recent Hondata thread, but I have a couple more things added in that I'd like suggestions on :)

I have researched this topic of Hondata tuners in CO before as well. I just called Yi today at Trendz and he said they have pre-tuned Hondata maps that they tuned. He said they have one for my particular setup, a stock GSR (B18C1) for boost up to 11.5psi. I'm not sure how safe it would be to run the map, but he did say it would run much better than the Hondata provided base maps. It costs $50 for them to burn the map to a chip you provide, which you can then put into your ecu. I also asked about additional tuning, dyno and/or part throttle street tuning. He said dyno tuning was available for an additional cost, but it sounded like he would rather just burn the chip for you with their map and be done with it.

I have been contemplating getting a 4b here instead of a 2b myself. Eventually buying a pocket programmer and making a wideband a/f unit so I could do in car tuning for my own car and for others that might need it. I'm just wondering if it would be more worth my while to just get the AEM EMS instead and have it tuned by someone else. The only thing is, it's hard for me to justify spending the extra money for the AEM. I already have a Hondata compatible ecu, it just needs to be prepped ($50 bux) and hooked up to a Hondata unit. Which, if I was able to go w/ a 2b would put me well under half the price for an AEM. Or, I could go w/ the 4b, in which case I would still be under the AEM price. But eventually I would get a pocket programmer, add $270 for that, and plus the wideband a/f kit too. At that point I'd have just as much into Hondata as if I would have just bought AEM to begin.

I don't know, I'm all confused again on the fuel management stuff and I'm planning on buying the rest of my turbo stuff next week, hehe. I wish we had a Hondata tuner here in CO, not just one that will hand out maps, but dyno tune your car as well as street tune it for part throttle driving. *sigh*

IMHO, that's a bad idea. His map would probably make an excellent starting point, but fine tuning is it is definitely the smart thing to do.

How much can you get a 4b for? When I was looking into it it was more for a 4b Hondata than a AEM.

If your car is OBD2, you'll have to get a wiring harness adapter, those aren't cheap (~$300).

Hey Pat, I'd love to check out your AEM stuff sometime when you get it up and running better... Maybe you've got some screen shots of the setups you did or something. I don't know, I probably won't go standalone, but it's intriguing nonetheless.

You can download a demo of teh software to mess around with at aem's website. aempower.com I think.

The best price I've been quoted is $940 for the 4b. I found one on ebay also:

I'm going to save up and do a standalone sometime this winter. Still debating which one I want to get.

I got in on a deal on h-t.com. With what I'm payin I get the Hondata 2b standard. If I go with 4b w/ datalogging it costs me $467 extra. If I want AEM it costs $728 extra.

The wiring harnesses aren't that expensive. I'd say $200 max. I have found a person that is selling them for $170. Plus I'll be sending my ecu out to get Hondata prepped soon, which is $50. Ugh...I guess if I thought of going for the 4b I would be looking at nearly the same price as the AEM afterall. Plus w/ the 4b I would need to get the pocket programmer, +$270 more. :( Man, decisions decisions *sigh*

I agree totally on the fine tuning part. Which is why I am hesitant to go with the Hondata 2b as opposed to something that is tune-able. Shoot, I dunno, I can choose to not get any fuel management in my deal and take off $450 from the total price. And decide after the fact, but I think I'll save money if I buy one of the choices through the deal.

I would love to have the AEM, I've messed w/ the demo software a bit and it looks killer. But I am no tuner by far and would definitely need help. Maybe I'll splooge for that and milk all you for help that are currently using the AEM :P

What car are you running the 4b in? You can get the datalogging on any of the Hondata models. You have the emulator then for the 4b I am guessing right? If you have that you can tune any other Hondata, then just need the programmer to burn roms.

I think I'm going to end up getting the 2b next week and using Trendz tuned GSR map until I can get in fine tuned on a dyno or on the street.

alwright, here's how it is. if one of us has a 4b, then I can tune them. i have the stock, and sugested fuel + ignition maps for b16 +18's, and the no-how to tune them from there. if i have to go through trenz, well f-that! I will just buy the aem and do it my self. but i dont want that. i like the hondata, i love the hondata, damm it i want the hondata. but i refuse to run a preburnd shit chip. i don't know, meby we should all just go out and buy carburaters, and about 50 jets. if you want to take me up on this then fine, i will go out and buy my 2b tomorow. if not then we need to just shit can the whole idea, because i'm tired of hering about it.:fu:

Well, sounds like one of "us" already has a 4b. I would be willing to help tune with it also, even help buy the pocket programmer if we needed to. I'm just not interested in paying a crapload more cash for the AEM right now. Somebody needs to get the Hondata stuff going out here, this sucks not having an authorized dealer...

how about we all get together and chip in, like a local groop buy. meby paragon could work out some deal with us for dyno time, and the use of the tuning can be shared by us all.

I would definitely be into doing this. Maybe we can get some sort of haiparts backing or involvement of some sort?? Just grasping for ideas...

I'll be ready in about a month. Assuming I get the 2b on Friday, which right now is what I am planning...

alwright, here's the deal, if we buy a 4b, and show them proof that we can tune them, we become a dealer. then we get 25% off from there.

Anyone see that Hondata came out with new products? The stage 2/3/4 are going to be the "old" models now being replaced by the s200. Figures, my 2b will be here in about 2 days. Upgrades are available for any of the stage 2/3/4 systems to get them up to s200 spec. Interesting stuff, info on Hondata's website:

I have a 4b, a pocket programmer and a techedge wideband kit. I'd be more than willing to offer my gear up for help if I could get someone who has the tuning know-how to help me tune my setup. I don't have any experience tuning, and I can't seem to get my setup running right. Turbo h22a's seem difficult to tune...

Dude, you rule! :p I am going to start a new post on this, now that we know of a couple more ppl w/ tune-able Hondata units. Plus you have the wideband! uber.
