Okay. I understand that ricey cars are bad - believe me, I hear about it from stu every time we see one, but what is the matter with them? Some people just value looks over performance, right? I know, I know, those don't look good, they look stupid...ricey I guess. But what is it that you dislike so much about them. Well, "rice" used to be a mod that claims or implies the car is better than it is. Things like VTEC stickers on non-VTEC cars, giant wings (especially the aluminum ones), "aerodynamic" body kits, big aftermarket tach w/ giant shift light on the dash, etc. Now "rice" is just pretty much anything ridiculous looking or distasteful. Most of it still fits the true definition, but we can hate a little more now.

Let's put it this way. Your car doesn't look that fast IMNSHO, nor is it that fast in comparison to say mine, which I consider pretty damn slow compared to say a supra, RX-7, even a 1.8T GTI that has a couple of mods. Secondly, lets say you do get your car upto say 100mph... That wing is putting downforce on your rear tires... Considering you have a front wheel drive car, that is just wrong, since the downforce on the rear will cause the front to raise up, and you therefore lose a bit if not a lot of traction, depending on how fast you're going. High aluminum wings are for rear wheel drive cars, and anyone who puts it on a front wheel drive car in an untasteful manner is 'rice' in my opinion. But do with it as you may, it's your car and your money. :)

i can say i agree with most of this statement, but i'm a little more anal about the mods than he is...
i think rice is very subjective to the person who views the car..
i like the low profile spoilers(like factory) they look good and dont attract cops(or theives). but i dont like anything that attracts too much attention to the car by just driving down the street...
and i mean ANYTHING!!!
i prefer stock looks, but, not so stock power. if my car is fast, i'd rather it didnt look fast..surprise. surprise..
but, i try to be objective when i look at others(this is hard for me to do sometimes) and realize that my opinion differs from anyone elses...
bottom line is..TO EACH HIS(HER)OWN.. but i will try to spank every showoff that crossses my path...

To be honest, I am not a big fan of after market taillights, in fact I pretty much hate them. However, I do kinda like clears with a black carbon fiber background on black cars. That is pretty much what you have right. I also think that you didn't get out of hand like some of the really ricey cars.

After all I had yellow paint all over the inside of my car. I always worried what other people would say, but I figured it was free and done professionally, so the paint looked good and I thought it looked good enough. I will try to post a pic of it if I can get it to work.

All in all, your car probably isn't bad at all, so don't be shy when it comes to meets or anything. And be Proud man, it's your car.

Your car has the beginnigs of aricey masterpeice. You have not crossed into the darkside yet though. Its still missing that one defining thing that makes it a ricer. You dont have tons of stickers stating the obvious (+1 for you) tou dont have a hanous body kit (+2 4U) The wing can be considered rice but that is merely a matter of opinion so it doesnt score points for or against. So the score is you +2 and rice +1 (tailights ok maybe +.5 because they are not the Chrome altezzas.) looks like you win. Better get some wheels and a kick ass suspension to make that score a little better though.

I've noticed that the newest civics put up an OK fight... I race one on my way to work EVERY morning because he works in the same building, and we live pretty close to each other... I mean their still patheticly underpowered, but still fun to show off to every once in a while...They still think VTEC is god. Well I was doing a highway romp with a green 7th gen civic coupe today riced out with rims, bouncy lowering springs, a big ass wing, and some altezzas. I don't think he liked the sleeper in my car solidifying his stupidity in mods when we went for it from a roll :rofl:

Yup, Rice was a term to first describe motorcycles. American bikes made loud annoying noises and Japanese bikes made high pitched like screeches. They built power differently when racing, so people would call them rice. It just turns out that Rice started being used to describe cars that had modifications that were useless ie.. bad negative camber, very low cars, big wings and body kits hanging on the ground. It just becomes way too excessive and fake. Sure a wing will help keep traction, but who needs one when the main speeds you can go are 40mph to 60? They're not designed for straight line use you know. Rice really describes those who think they know but don't. We have tons of magazines on this describing what should be the trend to set. Some people just get too carried away, or spend too much money to turn back. To build real power is one thing, but to look in a rag and have it tell you that you should buy an AEM intake, DC Sport Headers and Tanabe exhaust for your Honda is another. Big kits and funny paint jobs should be left in the shows really. I like some simple ground effects, but who needs those lowjoe Shi#*^.

another funnny rice mod (or lack thereof) is the bigass 17-18" wheels, but no suspension mods...so the wheelgap is huge & the accord looks like it's 4-wheelin
