You need a Ninja 250 or 500, not a 636, lol.

THANK YOU conrad. Sweet. I was thinkin about a smaller engine, but since my dads gonna be riding it too, and he's and experianced rider, so something in the 600's would do fine for him, and its quick as shit, but its not like I'm gonna go out doing crazy stunts. Plus, most of my bike friends here, say that they think the 636 would prolly be good for me. But then again.. this is wyoming...

Yeah the bike is not too much to handle, as long as it is in the right hands. It's all up to you on how safe it will be. Good luck with it, awesome bike, definitely a good enough bike so that none of us non AMA regular folk will ever be able to max out..... haha.
Let us know how it goes, but to answer your question, it's an awesome bike.

Good looking bike.
If Keith Code uses them for his race school.... you KNOW it's gotta be worth it!

Why? Do you have a reason or are you just saying that. The 636 is actually a pretty decent bike to ride, I wouldn't necessarily recommend it for a beginner, but it does ride pretty nice. I wouldn't recommend an 05 anything bike to learn on.

Buy an 07 R1 they're slow :)

Well the 636 wouldn't be a bad bike to learn on, no bike is a bad bike to learn on as long as you don't get stupid on it and try dumb shit. Take it easy and go with the flow and what you feel comfortable with and you'll be ok.

Agreed 100%. Not all sportbikes are created equal - the bike you buy should be one that's comfortable for you to ride. Kawi, Yami, Honda, Suzuki, Duc, Aprillia, whatever. The reason I picked an F3 as my first bike was because it was extremely cheap to insure, didn't cost much, and it was extremely comfortable - much more so than my R1 is.
My roommate and most of my buddies with bikes made the recommendation that I pick an older bike as my first, on the premise that I wouldn't feel quite as dumb wrecking something that cost 3 grand as opposed to 12. And right they were.

A 636 (or any 600 for that matter) is a great learner bike. But face it - everyone who is new to riding is going to lay the bike down at some point. I've been riding dirt bikes since I was a kid, and I still managed to put my F3 down. I wasn't doing anything "stupid", but I wasn't paying attention, either.

When I picked out my zx6r I chose it over honda, and suzuki...
I promise you sit on both bikes for more then an hour you will wish you were sitting on the kawi more then the honda... My seat is way more comfy, has a lighter feel ( from lower center of gravity and good balance).

Talice - you should check out some SV650's, they are awesome bikes for both beginners and for the professionals, TONS of upgrades available for them, very comfortable riding position, good running bikes, check em out.

I agree with pick whatever is comfortable for you. I started on an 89 ninja ex500 because it was cheap to buy, and insure. After that I went with the Buell. I however never laid either bike down(Have never laid any bike down to date, knock on wood). I dropped each bike once in a parking lot being stupid, off balance on the ninja, and forgot to unlock the steering on the buell. Paying attention being key there.

I dunno about that, I liked the seat and balance on the 636, but I think something like a CBR 600rr is really well balanced, and the seat was great for me(read as I weigh 135lbs so seat isn't going to make that big a deal).
However for long distance riding I would never pick a sport bike, any cruiser is WAY more comfortable.

Wow, that really answered my question guys. Thanks a ton, I'm gonna look into some other bikes also, just not to sure what kind yet. But I dont want anything less than a 600 just because of the fact my dads gonna be riding it too.

I love my 06 as well, id highly recomend it. If it is your 1st bike though, just take is easy, and go to a beginers riding course. When your with all your friends, and they are showing off, you dont have to, that is when stupid shit happens. My friend just totaled his bike this week because he was trying to shift through gears while doing a wheelie and lost it.

It's funny how many misconceptions there are out there about bigger, faster, and more powerful sportbikes. A brand new 1000RR or R1 will kill you just as easily as a 600 will if you don't know what you're doing. Riding at 75% of your limits is key, leaving a margin of concentration in case a panic moment happens. My bike is rated at ~160hp, and it weighs 380 pounds dry - but I rarely push it up that high simply because there's no need to put that much power to the ground, even if I'm passing someone in a canyon or on the highway.
I actually feel safer and more confident on my R1 than I did on my F3, simply because it's lighter, MUCH easier to handle and control, and I like the seating position better.

^^I get that sometimes.
I say "Busa" and they get this look on their face like there's no way you can get hurt or killed on a smaller bike like the 1kRRs & the like.
I DO like the ligher feel of those bikes (better handling)... but none of them fit my big azz.

Well, The Busa is the only bike I've ever rode that actually scared me when I went wot :) however it was still a fun bike to ride.
